Richard Grenell Praises Obama Gay Marriage Endorsement, But Wants Romney to Win: VIDEO

Grenell

Gay former Romney spokesman Richard Grenell is coming out of hiding and speaking out for the first time since he was resigned from Romney's team after a campaign by right-wing religious conservatives. Grenell appeared for an interview on FOX News today, simultaneously publishing an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal.

Grenell told FOX that people on the left and right wanted to keep him in a "one-dimensional box" in which he could only talk about being gay and gay marriage. He also talks about being a gay conservative.

Writes Grenell in the WSJ:

Mitt Romney appointed me to serve as his foreign policy and national security spokesman based on my experience and qualifications to speak clearly and forcefully on his behalf. The governor and his team knew that I have consistently challenged the Obama administration's failure to lead the world and confront the most important international issues we face. They also knew I was gay.

Thousands of Republicans privately voiced support for my appointment and were disappointed by the events that led to my resignation earlier this month. Some did so while admitting they disagreed with my support for gay marriage. But they too are passionate about a strong America, personal responsibility and independent religious institutions—issues that should be at the forefront of this year's presidential election.

Like many voters, I rarely agree with a candidate's every position. I can support Mr. Romney for president but not agree with all of his stated policies. I can be proud of President Obama's personal support for gay marriage and still take exception to his dismal national-security and economic records. …

While there are many reasons not to vote to re-elect President Obama, gay marriage is not one of those issues. National and economic security absolutely are.

  1. Wow... I have no words, except to say in astonishment, wtf? He practically gets chased out of his job with torches and pitchforks, working for a man who bullies gays and offers them second-classs citizenship, and STILL won't support Obama after he endorses equal marriage? If this Uncle Tom cares more about money than civil rights, then shouldn't him being forced to resign hurt him where it counts... in his wallet? And yet he still supports the party that forced him out of a job? Look up idiot in the dictionary, and you'll see his face beside it.

  3. Clearly he has Battered Homosexual Republican Sadomasochist Syndrome. While terribly sad he keeps choosing to run toward the punches.

  4. On national security, Grenell thinks Obama is a *dismal failure*. He sees the taking out of Bin Laden as a dismal failure?

I've never seen this Martha person before. How odd for a Fox News anchor to be a red dress wearing blond.

  5. ...Id like to know whom this guy is having sex with??? He should be SHUNNED! He just as bad as those Prisoners who worked with the Nazi's in Concentration camps against other prisoners....SHUN this bastard!

  6. Hes probably rich enough to get a hot boyfriend with low self esteem, so dont bother shunning him. Hes probably not interested. He lives in a completely insulated world and I know any number like him.

  7. I don't usually agree with every position taken by a politician either. But acknowledgement of my equal humanity and the importance of equal justice under the civil law is not something upon which we can agree to disagree. We start with equality and move from there. If you can't start with equality, then piss off.

It really is that simple. Or at least it's that simple for anyone with a functioning sense of self-worth.

  8. I am sure he is living comfortably in some blue state were there is equality

  10. Good for him.

Who here really supports ALL of Obama's policies? Or ALL of Romney's policies?

If you support 100% of either's policies, then you're probably an irrational, uncompromising ideologue. And it's people like that who are preventing ANYTHING from getting accomplished in Washington today.

  11. Too bad it's the Republicans who are so obsessed with the gay marriage issue and not on national and economic security. Mr. Grenell's WSJ article does nothing but pander to the GOP and avoids the issue of why the party insists on becoming wrapped around the axle.

  13. Why isn't he telling this reporter that she should be wearing a necklace? ...like he said about Rachel Maddow?

  14. @Andrew...nobody's claiming 100% support for Obama...but we're not going to bed with someone who would stab us in the back either.
You're money is getting in the way of your common sense...sweetheart!

  15. Re: “But they too are passionate about a strong America, personal responsibility and independent religious institutions”

I’ve notice that to republican’s “personal responsibility” means that SOMEONE ELSE is always personally responsible for anything that goes wrong. And they like “independent religious institutions” as long as that religion is a gay hating Christian religion.

  16. Like Milkman says, a politician or political party not believing that I deserve full rights and equality is pretty much a deal-breaker for me and I really don't understand people for whom it isn't. But my political beliefs are liberal anyway, so it's not like that's keeping me from voting for the GOP anyway.

The thing that turned me off Grenell to begin with wasn't necessarily that he's a gay Republican but his immature jibes on social media about Rachel Maddow, Hillary Clinton, and other women. He came across as a shallow, catty "Heather" wannabe who criticized their hair and clothes instead of addressing their positions.

  17. Self-loathing at its best.

  18. Richard Grenell is the type of gay man who looks down on other gays who "focus too much" on being gay. The type who will say "I'm more than a sexual orientation" and thinks the gay community should just conform and stop being selfish.

It's sick, it's sad, but we've all seen this before.

  19. Sorry Richard, helping put people on the trains to concentration camps doesn't mean you won't be forced to get on the train too. Maybe you can rat on fellow prisoners to get some special privileges.

  20. He makes me want to puke! Seriously!!

Btw: National Security issues? Is he high? God help us if we loose the Senate and the Presidency.

  21. What an ass. He definitely is one of those well off gays who only cares about money. Its one thing to disagree with your party's stance on gun rights or the environoment. Its another to overlook the fact that they don't want you to get married or adopt or serve in the military (DADT is gone but many GOPers wish it wasn't). Hopefully this guy will just fade back into the woodwork.

  22. you can be gay...and a piece of crap. you've now seen the proof.

  23. Now there is a man who votes with his wallet rather than what's in the best interest of his fellow humans.

  24. It's astounding that this man has been deemed unemployable by the Romney administration, and that he still kowtows and kisses Romney's ass. This man is truly a distraction and a self-delusional freak.

  25. Creepy, stupid guy.

His complaint is that Obama holds secretive positions on things, and his solution to that is ROMNEY? The mind boggles.
