North Carolina Pastor Sean Harris Urges Parents to 'Punch' Their 'Girlish' Sons, Crack Their Limp Wrists: AUDIO

Jeremy Hooper at Good as You has posted some extremely disturbing audio identified as Sean Harris, the Senior Pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC, giving his congregation a "special dispensation" to beat their children if they think they might be falling outside of gender norms.

Seean_harrisHarris also urged his congregation to vote for North Carolina's Amendment One in an hourlong sermon posted on Sunday.

Says Harris at the beginning of his horrifying rant (thanks to Jeremy for the transcript):

"So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, 'Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do,' you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed."

He adds:

"Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male."

Harris has advice for parents who think their daughters might be acting too butch:

"And when your daughter starts acting to Butch you reign her in. And you say, 'Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.'"

Adds Harris: “Can I take charge like that as a parent? Yeah, you can. You are authorized. I just gave you a special dispensation this morning to do that."

  1. I hope this story goes viral. It's actually even more disturbing than the sign shooter guy, and utterly indefensible. I hope his congregation leaves him; and anyone still supporting him in Fayetteville should be shunned.

  2. He's telling a congregation how to vote from a church pulpit? Revoke their tax-exempt status immediately.

Next, start an investigation into the potential abuse of his own kids.

  3. The reason RICK and KIWI have not posted is because they are off together on their honeymoon, where RICK is discovering his inner Power Bottom.

  5. Why is this Web Site advertising Liberty University????? They are the enemy. Why give them space on what proclaims itself to be a Gay Website????????????????

  7. I think what is more horrible than the words of this supposed preacher are the sounds of audience approval on the tape. Those sounds mean that there are people approving of his proposed child abuse because their preacher said it is okay. How long will it be before this "man of god" has the blood of children on his hands or has it already happened?

  8. Beating children. Say it out loud.
And this piece of human offal is why we have to stand together against the christianist mentality whenever it rears it's disgusting head. There is nothing of Jesus in him.
Where are the self acknowledged believers to call him out?

Google sells the ads. They can appear on any site because they're word search based. If Liberty University gets mentioned even a few times in text or comments it triggers an advertisement.

  9. Now we will be able to say that if they can't pray the gay out of the youngsters they will beat it out of them, how christian of them.

  10. So very, very Christlike -- if Jesus had been a hyper-violent psychopath.

  16. 910.868.5156 Call them as I did. I left a message telling them what I think. Shouldn't law enforcement be alerted?

  17. It will be fun to call 910.868.5156 to have a chat with this minister who encourages child abuse in his flock.

  21. A. Where is the separation of church and state. The tax exempt status of this "church" should be yanked.
    B. some people just need a high the face....with a chair. This guy is at the head of that line. What a crackpot!!

  22. @TJ: That's 'smells-like-a-girl' Brother LEROY to you! No, but seriously, where are they? A thread of comments just isn't a thread of comments until it's completely derailed by a bombastic, egotistical alpha male. I mean, who's gonna crack my limp wrist for me? All jokes aside, it's good to see there are more than 70 comments here already, & most of them suitably outraged. I really do hope this story gets the kind of attention it deserves in the mainstream media, although I'm not so sure it will.

  23. Unfortunately this man is giving voice to the thoughts of many. Refer to my article in the HuffPost on bullying and gender,

  24. @ Purdy-smellin' Brother LEROY - yes, a noticeable absence of bombastic, derailing comments, although AJ hasn't commented yet, so there's still hope.

As for the MSM, Anderson Cooper has done stories about the "spare the rod spoil the child" crowd, one pastor in particular who influenced some parents in my neck of the woods to beat their adopted daughter to death with PVC pipe. So there's hope there, too.

In the meantime, go to the chuch's Facebook page as listed above and join the rest of us who've made lots and lots of comments about the evil pastor.
