I hope Jesse Connors get the help he needs. And hopefully that will one day include some inner peace. And maybe a vacation somewhere far away from the things that are clearly tormenting him.

  2. Paul B. says

OMG…how pathetic. Someone put this poor repressed homo to sleep…but first tie him down and “f” him up the ass with his crucifix one last time!!

  3. Rich says

This makes me so sad. This is why we need to be kinder and more understanding than our opponents. They’re us. This guy doesn’t need a “crucifix up his ass”. He deserves our pity and someone to reach out to him and show him true dignity.

  4. Michae says

Rich, this guy needs to be pushed off the side a cliff. 99% of the homophobic bullshite we put up with comes from self loathing closeted cowards. F#ck him.

  5. Dave says

I’m with you, Rich. I don’t think there’s anything funny about his pain. What a sad and tormented person. We need to show the compassion and understanding we wish the other side was capable of.

  6. Sam says

I wanted to post something snarky about this guy since what he’s espousing is so ridiculous, but it would feel wrong to attack someone who is so obviously tormented. I feel nothing for this man but pity.

  7. Brian says

I think the audience reaction, or nonreaction, is interesting. The guy is so overwrought with emotion but it’s clearly not infectious. You could tell the audience just felt icky watching it. I would bet that the “ex-gays” are pretty unpopular on the right wing circuit. They serve a purpose for their political agenda. But as individuals, they’re just so obviously gay and high strung, and I don’t see the 60 something tea partiers and fundies bonding with them.

  8. says

by all means, brothers and sisters, lend your face and voice and go out and show “the compassion” you feel others aren’t giving.

compassion? understanding? if you feel there are people here who are missing “the point” then make a video and share the message you feel others aren’t delivering.

ex-gay treatment facilities are all the same – convincing people that a lie is necessary to live a happy life. in the end, it’s not about “pleasing God”, it’s about pleasing the lowly-mortals who falsely think they’re “obeying God.”

keep some things in mind – these are the same people who think “All Jews Go To Hell”, that all non-Christians are doomed to the fiery pits for eternity, that breaking the 9th Commandment is “less” of a sin than acting on your (gag) same-sex attractions.

    ex-gay myths and lies.

at some point you need to be a grown adult man and obey the laws of logic, reason, facts and empirical evidence. this man isn’t concerned about pleasing some deity, he’s only concerned about pleasing members of his family and community who are slaves to a religious text that they clearly don’t understand.

sidebar comment – for all the talk about “the gay community influencing gay people who then change their mannerisms, speech patterns and blah blah blah” why has this guy’s love of Jeebus and hatred of ‘All Things Gay’ not rid him of his utter stereotyped-in-lace queeniness? And I don’t mean that as an insult, because it isn’t – it’s just a description.

We see it here all the time “Gay Community makes gay men forget to be masculine! it makes them lisp!”

well, sugarpie in this video is working his tuchas off to distance himself from anything gay and he’s still merely one unicorn short of being a self-contained float in a pride parade.

    funny, eh?

  10. VDUFFORD says

Haven’t we seen this kind of crazy before?
Jason Russell the Kony film maker that ended up naked on an LA street corner ranting just like this. This guy had the had this same thing going on…their sick.

  11. chad says

while this mans pain doesn’t bring me any joy it doesn’t illicit sympathy either. It does make me angry at the church and religion in general, but I was already pretty angry at that stuff before I saw this.

“well, sugarpie in this video is working his tuchas off to distance himself from anything gay and he’s still merely one unicorn short of being a self-contained float in a pride parade.”
    @LITTLEKIWI that’s hilarious.

  13. Joe says

I agree with you Brian. The audience response was underwhelming. I didn’t hear a single note of encouragement. And the poor fellow seems to be a a couple of tears away from a total meltdown. I find the video sad, disturbing, and a bit creepy.

  14. Soren456 says

I’m as capable as the next (gay) guy at feeling concern and compassion. But somehow, the thought never rises as I watch this histrionic wad work himself up purely for show. His audience seems to be waiting for him to finish.

  15. Paul B. says

@RICH…I just ran out of pity for scum like this. Maybe you can muster up enough for the both of us…but don’t work too hard at my half…find your own and donate to him.
Maybe you’re young…who knows? I’m 60…I’ve spent my pity and compassion for garbage like this years ago. If you’re young…save some for your later years…you’ll need it because this wears on you after a few decades. Sound jaded? Yes, and over it !!!@

  16. Lucas says

@Joe, that wasn’t a total meltdown?? While watching, I expected him to jump up at any second and say “F#*K IT, I’M GAY GOD DAMMIT!” He is clearly fighting as hard as he can to convince himself that he is straight.. it’s sad, but ultimately his fault…

    What you resist, persists…

  17. The Milkman says

We should all be very compassionate toward people with mental illness.

Until that mental illness starts influencing the political process and subsequently limiting the civil and human rights of others.

At that point, it doesn’t matter what his problem is. He needs to get help or piss off and STFU.

It really does come down to that.

  18. StevyD says

Hate the sin, love the sinner.
Hate the false message this man (and so many others) have been overwhelmed with; to hatefully deny his inner self all in the name of a loving god.
Finding pity, having tolerance, practicing forgiveness for these most damaged of creatures doesn’t mean forgetting or quitting our goals. Yes they have hurt us along with themselves, but must we (can we) hate them as much as they themselves or their own spiritual leaders, do?

  19. Paul B. says

Watching this a second time (yuck!) I realized he reminded me of that “unwell” woman we all saw a week ago at the city council meeting. I’m thinking that mental illness takes many forms…it’s very easy to confuse the ugly symptoms of religion with those of mental illness. They often look the same and often are…so what’s a nice person to think?

  20. says

I can not even fathom this level of self-denial and self-hatred, all in the name of religion. The weight of being this closeted is like being 5 feet tall, yet screaming to the world:

IF I PRAY HARD ENOUGH, I WILL BE 6 FEET TALL!

  21. Sam Armstrong says

Another shining example of how religion takes away all the kookoo in people’s lives. Oh wait, sorry — how it makes them extra kookoo.

  22. Dale says

I’m sorry, he was portraying fake emotion to garner support from those listening to him thus giving himself and methods validity. It’s a tactic used by ministers all the time.

BTW, I am still waiting for an answer from MANY bloggers to state one of the 10 commandments or 8 beatitudes that condemns gay love between sexes. So far no replies.

  24. AJ says

That man is the gayest man from gay town. I would seriously feel pity for him if I wasn’t thinking of all the damage he is doing. More an more I am starting to see Christianity as akin to mental illness. I really am. This is exhibit A.

  25. jaragon says

Sad pathetic mess…this man seems headed for either a nervous breakdown or an early grave- how ironic that a religion that is suppose to teach love has been twisted into a weapon of self loathing and hate.

  26. candideinncc says

Pedro’s response is right. He is pathetic. I think many of us have been through the torment he is obviously undergoing, but hopefully most of the rest of us didn’t succumb to the neuroses as badly, and work for our own oppression. Pitiful creature. It gets better, but you can’t make it better by identifying with the ‘phobes.

  27. AJ says

I want to applaud Andy for leaving this up to us to make judgment. Keeping your opinion largely out of it is very classy for a blog, and a lot could have been said right up front. I like making my own opinion on things like this and not being lead. Kudos!

  28. Kev says

Some antigay actvists and Christians are Machiavellians. But most who are men are closeted fags who harm not only themselves but so many more. It’s sickening.

  29. billmiller says

I am almost 60 years old, and in my life I have seen several gay people commit suicide over the pressure put upon us by psychiatrists and so-called Christ-likes. I feel so sorry for this ‘preacher’ and the kid in the video.

    This Comment:

‘ OMG…how pathetic. Someone put this poor repressed homo to sleep…but first tie him down and “f” him up the ass with his crucifix one last time!! ‘

was extremely inappropriate. Since it advocates the murder and rape of someone, I think it counts as hate speech, and I hope it gets removed.

*If the author didn’t mean it that way, they should have phrased it differently.

I need to implore gay youth that not ALL “christian” pastors, Churches and Faiths are as selfless, selfish and interpreters of God or Jesus as this whining homophobe! The UU Church, The Episcopal Church, the Church of Christ, The Metropolitan Community Churches are mostly accepting AND affirming of people who happen to be gay. Remember: THE EMPTY BARREL makes the most noise and they are getting noisier as FINALLY, the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag becomes more of a reality in America: we’re witnessing “liberty and justice for all.” more and more and THEY are terrified!! God is experienced in our heart; NOT in our ears!
Hugz to youth, from a 71 y.o. Gay Veteran!!

  33. CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON says

Jesse Connors NEEDS TO FIND INNER-PEACE. HE MAY HAVE A FAMILIAL CONNECTION TO CHRISTIANITY – THAT’S FINE. HIS BRIEF “RANT” ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY AND ATHEISM IS DISTURBING; ONCE Mr. Connors “CALMS-DOWN,” HE MAY VIEW ATHEISM AS A “WELCOME-GUEST” WHEN THE MEMBERS OF HIS CHURCH BEGIN TO CHALLENGE HIS EFFEMINANCY.

While I’d really like to slam him (like NC Pastor Worley), and was set up to watch this vid with a bit of self-righteous glee, I found it heartbreaking. This poor man is where he is because he’s bought into a lie (probably out of desperation): that gay is a choice, and he’s hell bound if he doesn’t pretend to be straight. Would it be wrong to kill two birds with one stone, and lay the blame at the feet of that SOB Worley and his ilk for creating an atmosphere where obvious closet cases like this are driven to self-loathing?

  35. CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON says

    “BRIAN” (24 MAY; 2:25:39 PM),
“TEA PARTIERS” AND FUNDAMENTALISTS SHOULD BOND WITH HIM SINCE THE CLERGY CONSIDERS PEOPLE LIKE, Mr. Connors, TO BE THE “BEST” POSSIBLE OUTCOME AFTER “REHABILITATION.” THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE HIV/AIDS “DEATH-SCARE” AND A “COMING-HOME” TO RELIGION. TO AVOID INFECTION, SOME HOMOSEXUALS HAVE CEASED SEXUAL ACTIVITY; THEREFORE, “CHANNELING” ENERGY INTO RELIGION SEEMS TO BE THE ANSWER FOR SOME.
