This Is Your Hand On The Large Hadron Collider: VIDEO

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you stuck your hand in the Large Hadron Collider, the particle accelerator currently looking for the so-called "God Particle"?

Well, even if you haven't, a Sixty Symbols reader did and the site's staff posed that very question to physicists and engineers working on or with the Swiss-based project.

Find out what a "train" of energy would do to your digits, AFTER THE JUMP.

  1. Anyone else misread that as "hand on large hardon collider"?

  3. There will be a de facto prohibition on all openly gay people in a Romney presidency, as there already is in most areas of the republican party today.

  4. Well. That was interesting. I had no idea; and even less about the "halo" around the proton beam.

  5. So, to recap: it would burn a hole in your hand and the radiation from doing that would kill you shortly after that. Nice!

Love the science involved in the LHC, hopefully there'll be more videos with dorky British guys explaining things soon. Of course, if they find the Higgs Boson it'll be all over the news.

  6. All things serve the beam!

  7. Put your hand in front of an electronically shielded high velocity proton beam? You would probably wind up doing some "Quantum Jumping".
