Thirty years ago, my son told me he was gay. He said I haven’t been able to deal with him since. I shouldn’t have needed you to tell me it was OK to love my boy. But I did.’'"

  1. Yep, with the "election" of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt I think for the rest of my lifetime my dream of seeing the Egyptian artifacts will be limited to The Luxor in Vegas. Their pyramids have lasers.

  3. Well, now, this should be fascinating. The Towleroad "jury" loudly cheered the conviction of the "monster" Jerry Sandusky and the consensus was that he should "rot in hell" for his pedophilia.

Will the arrest of Larry Brinkin for possessing kiddie porn, revealing him to be a pedophile, himself, if convicted, garner the same reaction that Sandusky's arrest and conviction did?

Will we be told that Brinkin is "not gay" the way we were with Sandusky, even though he identifies as gay,is married to another adult man, has been a "pillar" of the gay community and a stalwart activist on behalf of gay rights?

I for one will stay tuned to find out.

  4. Brinkin is a monster for engaging in a "trade" that abuses children, and the community would do well to shun him. Feel better now, Rick?

This does not absolve your "hero" Sandusky of his crime, however.

  5. Rick, you're nothing but a troll and an @$$hole. What's reported above is "Officer Albie Esparza would only say that the case was still under investigation, and would give us no more details at this time."

Yeah, let's all grab our torches and go on a rampage over something we don't have any details about!

Though I'm sure the distinctions are lost on you, Jerry Sandusky was a CLASSIC child molester, married and with kids, who went out of his way to surround himself with kids. Though of course it happens, OUT gay men (which I doubt includes you) are almost never child sexual abusers. Abusers want to blend in so they can can get close to their prey, so it's not out gay men parents need to fear but adult straight-identified men who are "so good with kids" and frequently arrange to be with them in private.

  7. No details? I just read the updates to the Brinkin case - not a pretty picture at all. In fact, if true, I hope he is dealt with very severely by the law and the decent people of SF. A pervert and racist hiding behind a gay activist banner. It makes me sick!

  9. "Will the arrest of Larry Brinkin for possessing kiddie porn, revealing him to be a pedophile, himself, if convicted, garner the same reaction that Sandusky's arrest and conviction did?"

If the alleged email conversations are indeed accurate or the tip of the iceberg, why wouldn't they garner opprobrium?

This civil rights fight is to secure legitimacy for consensual sexual relations and relations and romantic relationships. It's not to perpetuate the sexual exploitation of children. Harry Hay's support for NAMBLA was despicable back when gays had no rights; I'm not sure what's prompted you to question the complete repudiation of child rape by every major (and most fringe) LGBT rights organizations, gay activists, as well as ordinary LGBT people, including millions of LGBT parents.

  11. Andrew Cuomo is definitely a contender for the democratic nomination in 2016. How about a Cuomo/O'Malley ticket? I don't care which one is Pres or V P. They are both excellent choices. And there are many other strong democrats in the wings. We have an abundance of riches.

  12. I knew Larry Brinkin and worked with him. When I saw this posting, I was SHOCKED! My mind is completely blown.

I don't know what to think or how to even process the information. The contents of the email (and other postings that you can see online through a quick google search) are so completely vile and reprehensible.

Larry was someone I always admired. I hope to God there is some sort of mistake and that this wasn't him. But the evidence is pretty damning.

I am shocked and stunned and saddened.

It really makes you wonder about people. You never know who they really are.

It also makes me wonder about his son.

Wow, just wow. I need a drink.

  13. "I knew Larry Brinkin and worked with him. When I saw this posting, I was SHOCKED!"

I had never heard of him, let alone met him, but the details sound VERY worthy of suspicion. All this extreme racist "hooray for white supremacy" stuff that accompanied the images make it sound like a set-up.
I have seen cases in my local paper where the "Page 1" feature story is that a pillar of the community is arrested for something like this being on his computer. Then, three months later, there's a little paragraph on page 57 (which hardly anybody reads) revealing that the person in question has now been absolved and the investigation has revealed that he been had sent an innocent-looking e-mail by a political enemy that, when opened, unleashed a virus of illegal images just as the police receive an anonymopus tip-off (presumably from whoever sent the virus).
The retraction is not as "newsy" as the original accusations, and by the time it appears, the person's life has already been ruined.

  14. @Rick: You must have flunked out of sexual psych class, or else never took it and haven't read up on the science of the subject.

Sandusky is married to a woman and identifies as heterosexual. Brinkin is married to a man and identifies as gay.
If the photos of babies on Brinkin's computer are females (as it appears from the vocabulary in the example in the article she is), that does NOT mean that he is straight, and if Sandusky's charges are against underage males that does not necessarily mean he is gay.
Male and female children start out as virtually indistinguishable, which is one reason why their gender is no indication of an adult perp's orientation. Such a person often has no preference for one sex over another and the motivations for his actions can be completely different from the sexual bond that draws an adult to another adult.

If someone like Sandusky is put in charge of a group of, for example, black male Pennsylvania kids and he crosses a line with them, it is not an indication that he prefers males over females any more than it is an indication that he prefers black kids over white ones or Pennsylvanians over West Virginians. Some of these perps will cross that line with whatever type of kid is put in his charge. And if they put him in charge of a group of girl scouts the next week, then that is who he will victimize.

In the case of very young kids (especially babies), the gender of the victims is even more irrelvant to the perps and their genders are virtually indistinguishable.

I hope these charges are not true but if they are, one thing you can always count on is that the homophobic right wing media will blame all of the perpetrators on gay people, "changing" the orientation of men with wives and NO interest in men to pretend they are gay and, of course, never doing the inverse when reporting on a man with a husband and no attraction to women (to call him "straight" when he is not).

  15. "Though of course it happens, OUT gay men (which I doubt includes you) are almost never child sexual abusers"

The other day it was "never"; now, it is "almost never". LOL.

@GregV The FACT is that virtually all pedophiles have a strong preference for one gender or the other and are therefore, in fact, either homosexual or heterosexual (or bisexual in rare cases). Your claims and those of others are shear fiction, as fictional as the claims that men who have sex with other men in prison are only doing it out of a quest for "power" and are not really turned on by the activity.

Just stop all the politically-motivated lies. Please. It just makes you all look ridiculous.

  16. @GregV,

No, it sounds like Mr. Brinkin has 'bad' obsessive thoughts and a very deviant nature. Not surprisingly actually, he tried to pass himself off as the opposite of his real character. This is from a psychological standpoint pretty common. It's one of the reasons why I'm very leery of self-described and intolerant 'radicals' of any type. IMO many have mental health issues and their constant desire [need] to control others and to use unfounded accusations [example: people obsessed with 'racism', accusing everybody and his brother of being 'racist' at the drop of a hat, or those obsessed with seeing 'homophobes' everywhere] themselves are often in private rabid racists, etc. Not surprisingly Mr. Brinkin apparently created out of his own fertile but warped mind numerous commonly used 'progressive' PC catch phrases and talking points.

How many times has a person who champions children's rights or been responsible for investigating child abuse and child porn have themselves been caught abusing children, possessing child porn, etc.? It's very common. In my own person experience knowing and interacting with people throughout my life, a good percentage of those who are vocal and pushy about their interests in 'social justice', or 'civil rights', or who just like to come across as a very straight laced, smug and God fearing, have deep, dark secrets they want to hide from the world. I was recently talking with one guy I'm acquainted with who is uber 'progressive', soft spoken, very polite, who I know for a fact [he isn't aware I know, however] is also really in to 'rough' and violent sex, bondage, Sadism, and humiliating people, in fact he advertises surreptitiously for 'slaves'. So no, Mr. Brinkin's real persona doesn't surprise me.

  17. Sandusky, if actually guilty of molestation, caused harm because he used his position to impose himself on boys who were not really interested. (I won't comment on whether he is actually guilty, because I don't know. Certainly there is no such thing as a fair trial when it comes to this issue.)

Brinkin, on the other hand, and if the charges are true, merely looked at some pixels on a computer screen. He almost certainly did not pay for any child pornography because there simply is no way to pay for it. Pedophilia is a sexual orientation, and is NOT synonymous with abuse. I would really think THIS community would know better.

I applaud the rise of the Muslim brotherhood in Egypt, as they are not obsessed with the magic age of 18 like western culture is.

Hundreds of thousands of pages of evidence were presented at trial. There were multiple testimonials. There were repeated complaints about his behaviour - which is why heads rolled at Penn State. There was, in other words, a mountain of evidence and history that clearly established that Sandusky was a pedophile who repeatedly sexually assaulted boys.

"He almost certainly did not pay for any child pornography because there simply is no way to pay for it. "

Of course there is. Black markets have been around as long as civilization. It's not as if pedophiles are inherent altruists.

"Pedophilia is a sexual orientation, and is NOT synonymous with abuse."

    1) No, it isn't a sexual orientation. It is a paraphilia psychiatric disorder. There is a body of academic literature that clearly establishes the fundamental differences between orientation and paraphilia.
    2) A pedophile is not synonymous with CSA. Acting on those interests most certainly is.
