Idaho Billboard Equates Obama with Colorado Killer James Holmes

An electronic billboard in Caldwell, Idaho is making headlines, the Statesman reports:

An electronic board on Franklin Road in Caldwell juxtaposes photos of James Holmes, accused of killing 12 in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater last week, with President Obama. About Holmes, it says: “Kills 12 in a movie theater with assault rifle, everyone freaks out.” About Obama: “Kills thousands with foreign policy, wins Nobel Peace Prize.”

What’s the point? Obama broke his promise to bring the troops home and many young Americans have died, said Maurice Clements, who is helping keep alive the provocative libertarian tradition of the late Ralph Smeed, whose billboard (now electronic) is a Caldwell landmark. “We’re all outraged over that killing in Aurora, Colo., but we’re not outraged over the boys killed in Afghanistan,” Clements said of public sentiment.

What connects Holmes and Obama? Clements said he’s just comparing the way society reacts. “We’re not saying that Obama is a lunatic,” he said.

  1. When the ridiculous right behave like this is just works in Obama's favor. Most people are not extreme either to the left or to the right so when they see this it scares them away from that political party.

Romney and his supporters are extremists who will destroy the US and make many enemies around the world. Voters are beginning to see this.

  3. OK, I've told the Left, not I'll tell the Right: Stop acting stupid and harming your own interests. So far race has not been a factor in most of the discussions about Obama (from 2007 onward.) But if conservatives keep acting like this they will have no one but themselves to blame if Obama and his supporters "play the race card." There is one very very easy way to avoid charges of using racial stereotypes...and that's to (Hello!)........stop using them.

  5. Mr. Clements clearly does not understand the difference between enlisting in the military and attending a Batman movie. It's sad that apparently no one is his life is interested in explaining it to him, either.

  7. I am so sick of "Libertarians", I have seen them slam Obama countless times and not once have I heard anything but praise for the GOP. They almost appear more racist and extreme than the Tea Party.

  9. Well, I have been outraged over "the boys" killed in Afghanistan since George W. Bush started this war. Pres. Obama is winding it down and bringing "the boys" home, in addition to dealing with Osama bin Laden.

What separates Mr. Holmes and Mr. Obama? Mr. Holmes thinks he is a criminal character from a comic book / movie. Mr. Obama IS the President of the United States and Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces.

  10. "We're not saying that Obama is a lunatic."

That's good, Mr. Clements, as we've reserved that term for you.

  11. I thought it was common knowledge that Osama has been dead for several years now? Some say Benazir Bhutto was killed for admitting this in a televised interview.

  12. "Common knowledge" among tin-foil hat conspiracy theorists, perhaps. Shouldn't you be busy on a moon landing video comment thread on YouTube, telling everyone that it was faked?

  13. I was called today for for a survey on the Presidential election. They asked who I would vote for today, Mitt or Obama. It was with great pleasure I said Obama. The poll was from a Republican organization.

  14. uhhhhhhh ok there are the american casualties.

and then there are also the IRAQI and afghan casualties which are WAY higher.

funny how myopic these conversations can be.

  16. Wow. I'm not a fan of Obama (or Romney for that matter) but this is despicable and counter-productive.

  17. There should be a new billboard with Bush II's face on it that says, "Started war on false pretenses for oil and revenge - thousands of lives and billions of tax dollars down the drain. Gets another 4 years to run the country."

    Posted by: FuryOfFirestorm | Jul 28, 2012 8:22:57 PM

  18. The billboard does make an apt comparison.

Obama is not the Democrat we were looking for.

He's just the one we've got.

  19. yes, libertarians are nuts. did it take this kind of display to bring you all to that conclusion?

yes, this is wholly wrong. absolutely specious. disgusting.

Of note: Obama has prosecuted various assassinations through the use of drones that are outside of proper boundaries of not osama bin laden...

  20. Just wondering if he had that same moral outrage when George W. and the neocons started the war, or when George W. and the neocons started the unnecessary war in Iraq, or when George W. and the neocons alienated half the world with THEIR foreign policies? At least Obama has been trying to clean up some of the messes and has earned back the respect of other countries. Geeze.

Just wondering if I was the only person who remembered who started the war

  22. For honesty's sake, the billboard has a good and genuine point to make (though dummies might get the wrong/Fox-News-related idea).

Extending the thought, all politicians are murderers. They allow 1000s of Americans to die annually by denying them with the healthcare. We have the money for it, but instead they choose to utilize it for defense contractors and other wasteful, unneeded entities.
