Nearly 550,000 Have RSVP'ed to Mike Huckabee's Hateful 'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day', Set for Tomorrow

Cfa_appreciation

Approximately 550,000 people have signed up to eat Chick-fil-A tomorrow following a call to action from Mike Huckabee to show their support for Dan Cathy and his company's donations to anti-gay causes.

The Christian Civic League of Maine is actually bussing bigots to Massachusetts to eat there because there are no Chick-fil-A restaurants in Maine:

“We are calling on folks that agree with Mr. Cathy to make their way to Chick-fil-A to show their support for him,” Christian Civic League executive director Carroll Conley said in an interview Tuesday, referring to Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy.

CathyMeanwhile, a report released today valued Cathy's chicken empire at $4.5 billion, Bloomberg reports:

The two sons of Samuel Truett Cathy, the chicken sandwich empire’s founder -- Dan Cathy, 59, and Donald Cathy, who is known as Bubba -- have joined the ranks of the world’s richest, according to a report published today by PrivCo, a New York- based research firm that specializes in private companies’ financial data.

The report values Chick-fil-A at $4.5 billion. Dan Cathy, the company’s president, and Don Cathy, its executive vice president, each own a third of the restaurant chain, according to a person familiar with the company who asked not to be named because it is closely held. Neither has appeared on an international wealth list.

“The sons have been involved in running the company for many years,” said Kenneth L. Bernhardt, a professor at Georgia State University’s business school and a longtime consultant for Chick-fil-A, in a phone interview today.

  1. Felix's statement is definitely too generalized, but he is right in that there are WAY too many in the LGBT community who would rather sit on the sidelines and conform and not make noise than stand up for our equality. And people who want to be "respectful" of those who seek to destroy us. And we've seen a lot of those gays come out of the woodwork during this Chick-fil-A deal. Too many apathetic gays, too many gays who don't get it, and don't realize that to win against homophobia we must fight against it on every level, at every turn.

BTW, Chick-fil-A's popularity ratings have declined sharply the past two weeks, so no, they are not gaining popularity. With that being said, they likely will not suffer much net loss of customers nor money, because many who are boycotting the company now, didn't go there in the first place. Not only will there be some Christians who make it a point to go to CFA, but a lot of their supporters are making it a point to make CFA their main consumption of food whenever they're out. However, the bottom line is, their popularity ratings, their reputation, is significantly worse now than it was a few weeks ago, so yes, the backlash has worked in that sense. And the backlash has worked in identifying we do in fact have many strong and true allies who are standing strong and ready to fight with us.

  3. I would cut out my tongue before I would eat this garbage. And because of that, I will live a longer, happier, and healthier life than the people who poison themselves with grease, salt, and bigotry. So, thank you, Chick-fil-a for insuring that I will never pollute my body -- or my soul -- with the junk you peddle.
(Tomorrow, I intend to make an excellent gourmet meal and eat it with the people I love...)

  4. The Cathys may make millions from religious zealots and homophobes like them, but in the long run their prejudice will hurt the company. When the vast majority of Americans support LGBTs, CFA will be forced to change or go the way of C00N CHICKEN INN.

  5. They say they will also be having the Rick Santorum milk shake, a frothy mixture they call the Rectorum to go with that. Nothing goes better with chicken than a frothy mixture.

  7. The democratic party is too far ahead of the nation on the marriage equality issue and it is one of the things that is going to cause the election of Romney. You have no idea how much i hope that i am wrong. See you on Nov 7th.

  9. Busing Bigots to Boston? You're going down, and you'll have no one to blame but yourselves. You'll never be "equal" because you will always be the most despised. Wanna watch?

  10. Do people who think Chik Fil A's actions are no big deal KNOW what NOM does? Do you all realize just how much NOM hates, yes... Hates, gay people and they have recieved an enormous amount of money from CHIk Fil A. Please stop being ignorant to facts that are in your face. Being ignorant to reality won't make it go away.

More power to every gay person who stands for what they believe in and doesn't waver. That's character

  11. No way are 550,000 additional customers going there tomorrow. Tons of those people just hit those buttons to show support. They're Huckabee supporters, after all.

Though I think GLAAD's "same-sex kiss-in" at CFAs on Friday is a terrible idea and will likely result in a lot of violence, though again I suspect rather limited turnout except in a few major cities.

  12. So tomorrow there will be 550,000 haters one step closer to blocked arteries and coronary disease. How is this a bad thing?

  14. Everyone here is way overstating the AFA's mission. Yes, the AFA is anti-gay and has a lot of anti-gay programs, but they also have a lot of other issues that they focus on. Being anti-gay isn't their sole mission nor was it even founded for that purpose. I'm not trying defend the AFA, but let's at least get our facts straight. It cheapens your arguments and ruins your credibility when you make factual errors.

  15. 550,000 out of the over billion on twitter and hundreds of millions of conservative leaning americans isn't THAT much. Given that half those profiles are duplicates or robots, I definitely expected it to be in the millions for this lame bigot march tomrow.

  16. Who cares? This should fuel our fire not make us go in a corner. Oir values for equality does not change with staged events like this. Or no matter the number of people who attend. Our wanting equality should never change nor should out consistency to speak about it. That's what forces people to think. Not running away when faced with homophobes

  18. @CHRIA,
Hi, yeah we don't really give a shhhht what your company does. You all are homophobic monsters and will constantly and consistently be called on it. Be prepared for that. Lots of it. And not just on here. AfA's articles and videos online are all 'blessed' with thousands of us leaving comments to highlight your evil ways

  19. Hahahaha I'm loving the Chik Fil A + NOM trolls on here. They try to come on our platform and water down the homophobia desperate tactics they adopt. It's so sad that even they cant stand behind their so called values. Why water it down? You all will be taken down. Our community, its 40 + million members in this country and our LGBT supporter will be sure you bigot groups go down.

  20. Chik Fil A is frozen food. Fake frozen food. I told all my friends on facebook and none are interested eating that stale artificial chicken

    Posted by: Lola | Aug 1, 2012 12:24:45 AM

  21. Chria-
You lost us at "yes they are anti gay" thats all we, as self respecting gay people care about. We have no interest in hearing how anti gay they are (and your organization is mighty homophobic) and it doesn't matter to what capacity. So spare us the capacity test of how not bad your homophobia is. Homophobia is homophobia and AFA works for adopting, championing and promoting homophobia. An we'll attack them every chance we get.

  22. Their reviews on yelp have been considerably bad recently because of their controversial comments. They have so many negative articles about them that even they know they made a mistake as a company and said they will never repeat their political commentary again. They stepped in it!

  23. This is the most hateful hypocritical juvenile site I've ever come across. Whining... crying... pouting. "A rich guy said he supports the traditional definition of marriage and he gives money to causes I don't like. Waaaagggghhhh! Sob! Boo hoo, boo hoo!" You reinforce the stereotypes that fags are a bunch of limp wristed fems. Dry your eyes, wipe your nose and get a life!

  24. So what are we supposed to be boycotting exactly?

If the point of the boycott is to make them stop donating to the AFA that's one thing, but the last few comments make it sound as though we are supposed to boycott until they stop disliking gay people.

If that's the case, then the boycott is stupid. It's stupid to boycott over someone not liking you. If they don't like you, then don't go there. You don't need to make a big deal out of it.

  25. They have a right to believe the way they want! You have a right to believe the way you want!

They have a right to voice their opinion! You have a right to voice yours!

GET OVER YOURSELVES!! I AM A GAY MAN WHO SUPPORTS THEIR RIGHT TO FREEDOM, THEIR RIGHT TO SAY WHAT THEY WANT TO SAY!!!! I MAY OR MAY NOT DISAGREE - BUT THIS IS AMERICA DAMNIT!! IT'S NOT HATE! THEY DID NOT SAY THEY HATE GAYS! THEY SAID THEY BELIEVE IN THE BIBLICAL DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE!!!!!!!
