RoadRhino horn trafficker busted in NYC: "A double-crossing Manhattan antiques dealer pleaded guilty today to illegally buying the stuffed heads of two rhinoceroses after signing up to help the feds crack down on black-market sales of rhino horns. David Hausman, 67, was busted last year after a sting operation in which he paid $8,500 for the head of an endangered black rhino. Following the November 2011 transaction, which took place at a truck stop in Princeton, Ill., agents with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service agents spotted Hausman sawing off the horns in a motel parking lot. A later search of his apartment turned up a treasure trove of taxidermist stuffed rhino heads and horns, including the two he removed in the parking lot."

  1. Thank you Mr. Towle for the continuing interest in wildlife and conservation. You will take flack for not sticking to a narrower range of stories, but kudos from this reader (ref: the rhino horn story which could be subtitled the goniff and the government).

  2. Sally Quinn of the Washington Post today came out with a brilliant suggestion: "gays and lesbians should apply at Chick-fil-A and become managers and hold events like gay weddings." Hear that you gays and lesbians?
She doesn't care if you work as a computer salesman, pharmaceutical rep, have a dental practice, are a lawyer, work at The Washington Post - go work your way up to manager at Chick-fil-A! Dammit, there's a POINT to be made here!

    You gays and lesbians!

  3. Michael would be like screwing your neighbor's retarded son. Sorry, just came to mind and through the keyboard!

God forgive me because I could have said a lot worse!

  4. Markus...actually, there are a few gay owners. Somehow they slipped through the pearly gates and landed the distinct honor of a Chick-Fil-A franchise. Should they be "outed?" No, but it is painful for them and their customers who know. Chicks in a coop?

  5. Beauty tips for AC...the color of the hair and the face are becoming as one, so darken the hair a bit or get some color on the face. You are becoming translucent--not a good thing! Hugs bubba!

  6. "...the movie actor River Phoenix was working on when he died at age 23 of a heart attack..."

Heart attack? This isn't very good journalism. River Phoenix died of a massive drug overdose. He was "speedballing" (ingesting a combination of cocaine and heroin); his autopsy report revealed lethal doses of cocaine and morphine (which is what heroin metabolizes into and shows up as in the blood). His blood also contained diazepam, ephedrine, and marijuana. He had a squeaky-clean image, which made this all the more tragic. It serves no one to "whitewash" the actual cause of death.

I realize you're just quoting another story, but to do so without some comment as to its veracity is a little irresponsible.

  7. Ted Cruz was heavily advertised on this site - why was that, Andy?

  8. Ted Cruz' single largest donor, Peter Thiel of San Francisco, is openly gay and supports same-sex marriage. Thiel donated to Cruz $251,000 in 2009 and recently donated $5,000 for Cruz' Senate primary. He is also the largest single donor to the group backing Cruz - the Club for Growth Action super PAC giving them $1 million in May. Cruz is deceiving Texans about his alliances while claiming to be a Tea Party Republican. It seems that Sarah Palin should have done more homework about Ted before endorsing him, if she is truly opposed to homosexuality. She chased the spotlight at a Chick-fil-a for face time and Cruz bought their fried chicken to serve at one of his latest fund raisers. Seems to me they are both working overtime fleecing the teaparty votes and money.

  9. @Icebloo: Almost every time you post you prove that you know very little about the U.S system of government. Get yourself a basic high school civics book and study it and you won't make so many stupid statements.

  10. "Tea Bagging" in the balls-on-forehead sense is largely a creation of John Waters.

The Tea Party is just an obvious example of how beneficial balls slapping your forehead can be. It would improve their disposition immensely.
