Eight Added to Speaker Roster at Democratic National Convention

Eight new leaders have been added to the list of those speaking at this year's Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, CNN reports:

HarrisAdded Monday were Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who served as President Barack Obama's chief of staff for the first two years of his presidency; Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, who won the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination; Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, and former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who acted as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee and is running for U.S. Senate.

Also on the list: Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper.

As I noted earlier, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro is slated to deliver the keynote address, and former President Bill Clinton is set to enter Obama's name into nomination.

The convention convenes in two weeks.

  2. Hey, Zeke:

Remember a sitting President (or his re-election campaign staff) are in control of the party's convention. I guess the President feels he owes both Emmanuel and Kerry. Emmanuel got him through those turbulent first 2 years of his administration. Kerry made him his keynote speaker in 2004 which led the way for Senator Obama to become President Obama.

Will I sit through the Kerry and Emmanuel speeches? It depends on how much whiskey I have left those evenings.

  3. I'm most excited about Deval Patrick, and super-excited for Kamala Harris.

Deval can talk about Romneycare vs. ObamaCares, and Kamala has long been in the trenches on Prop 8 and she was recently the holdout AG negotiating for a better deal on the mortgage debacle settlements for CA.

  6. I hope they announce Hillary Clinton is going to run as VP this time ! That would make lots more people come out and vote. It would also mean Hillary goes down in history as the first female VP which she deserves after all her hard work for over 40 years fighting for the rights of people less fortunate than herself.

    Biden should step down.
