Elton John Declares Madonna's Career Over: 'It Couldn't Happen to a Bigger C*nt' — VIDEO

Elton John went after Madonna in an interview with Australian music journalist Molly Meldrum during which he also talked about his own career, and his 19-month-old son Zachary:

"Fate took a big hand in my life."

Lady Gaga, of course, is the boy's godmother, and Elton took the opportunity to offer his opinion on some of her pop music peers, including Madonna, about whom he didn't mince words.

"Her career's over. Her tour's been a disaster. And it couldn't happen to a bigger c*nt."

He added:

“If Madonna had any common sense she would have made a record like Ray Of Light and stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and make great pop records, which she does brilliantly. But no, she had to prove that she was like...and she looks like a f*cking fairground stripper. She's been so horrible to Gaga.”

  1. Ye gods, that was unprofessional and bitter...

You may not like her, but seriously, what is the point of tearing another performer down?

Careful, Elton, your narcissism is showing.

  2. By referring to Madonna as a fairground stripper, Elton has basically described 99% of all female pop singers out there today. Their shtick consists of look changes, showing a boob, showing a piece of ass, pretending to be bisexual etc etc etc. The saddest thing is that gay men have supported the careers of these women.

I honestly don't know why men who are interested sexually in men have gone and supported the careers of women who appeal sexually to men who are not like us. Strange, isn't it?

  3. What a sad bitter queen.

  4. Elton John is nothing more than a money whore. He performs at the wedding of a major Homophobe and then declares Limbaugh not a Homophobe. He tells Gay Americans to stop being Cry Babies because they can't marry and now he speaks about another artists career. His career is over, he is "The Biggest Loser"!

  5. @JASON: Why do we have to be sexually attracted to performers we like? To me, Madonna represents fierce independence, strength and fighting adversity; also acceptance. She pushed a ton of buttons along the way and paved the way for performers like Gaga who took it several glorious steps further. Nothing Madonna has was handed to her on a silver platter. And Elton can suck it. Tearing other performers down is not a way to win any admiration.

  6. Pretty funny. I mean, her career IS over and she IS a c#nt sooo whats the big deal abt him saying it?

    Posted by: Munro | Aug 6, 2012 9:06:00 AM

  7. And sadly, morons like Jason will continue to show how little their knowledge of music actually is. If you think that it is only recent that female singers have been doing that schtick, you're sorely in need of furthering your education.

As for Elton, I really don't get his bitterness. It's unprofessional, and petulant. And as for him critiquing anyone's concert attire, that's pretty rich. This is a man whose schtick is flamboyant outfits, gaudy glasses and platform shoes. Honestly, if he thinks that Madonna is a fairground stripper, then he must be part of the clown troupe.

  8. Do you notice how restricted Elton John's movements are? As he wobbled down the street and up on to the stage? Ok, that's normal, yes. But look at Madonna. She's in her fifties and she's still tearing up the stage at a heartbeat. C'mon Elton - give her some credit for not only being a great performer, but she's keeping herself together, healthy and hot to this day. Nobody is 100% perfect, and once more, she's still recreating herself, her dancers and her dance. He likes Gaga over M?? Seriously? Get up to date, dude...

  9. I often find that when people badmouth others too vehemently, they r the ones who end up looking bad (and not the subject of their speech).... I often see it in the comment threads on this site and definitely see it with Elton John.... unless he is going senile, a la Sophia Petrello, I'm not sure name calling is very dignified in an interview setting... to say the least...

  10. I think he was right on the money about Madonna. Have you EVER read or heard anything saying that she is a nice person in any way? doubtful.
I also don't think there is anything sad about Elton John. He is mega-successful and very happy in life.
Does anyone ever post comments that are positive?

  11. That sad old queen needs to take a look in the mirror.

  12. I Love both Elton and Madonna.

  13. AJ,

Madonna represents fierce independence?? LOL. She's entirely dependent on a stereotypical marketing strategy. Fierce independence, my foot.

  14. Makes me cringe that this kind of misogynistic take on things comes so easily to both Elton, his partner and their kind, and that I still hear people talking in this way about women. EJ and Furnish would never have the balls to publicly trash a man to this degree.
Also draws to mind the fact that loyalty (in this case, seemingly to Gaga) can bring out the worst in people. Seems EJ at the end of the day is no better than one of Gaga's monster trolls...

  15. @JASON: I'm talking about being young and looking up to her. Dude I was ten when I first started liking her and knew nothing about "marketing strategies".

  16. I think Elton can go back and sing for Limbaugh. Yeah, a bitter old queen is right.

    Posted by: Monrob | Aug 6, 2012 9:34:47 AM

  17. Although I do agree that Madonna is washed up, Elton always has something bad to say about other people. He definitely needs to take a look in the mirror. He's a flamboyant joke from a time gone by.

  18. I'm no fan of Madonna's, but if her career is over, what does that say about Elton's? Neither can sell a million albums right now, but she'd sell more than he can, and she can draw more people to her tours. Yes, she does look pathetic trying to make music that fits a much younger artist, and for pulling stunts like exposing her breasts, but Elton John isn't beyond pulling a stunt or two to sell records. Trying to sell records was the only reason why he teamed up with Eminem at the Grammy's.

  19. Prefer Madonna's music but love Elton's attitude.

I don't Madonna's career is over by a long shot but she is a nasty piece of work who comes across as so cold and angry all the time.

  20. I'm curious how you call someone a fairground stripper when you come out in a Donald Duck costume. I'd rather be a stripper than a clown. As the wise Mazeppa once said "Something wrong with strippn'?"

  21. Maybe he considers Madonna as his “nightmare” because she makes him look bad, simply by being talented. Not washed up. And not a hypocrite who has to whore himself out to Rush Limbaugh for one million dollars and proclaims Rush his "friend". Maybe he thinks she’s a nightmare because her albums with NEW SONGS go straight to #1. Unlike him, Madonna does not need to redo her past hits to reach the top of the charts. I love it how she says “her career is over”, it shows how out of touch with reality he is. Just like when he married a woman in the 80s to avoid being outed and then had to be dragged (pun intended) from the closet kicking and screaming in the 90s. Like Melissa Etheridge. Another fake LGBT idol. Do I need to point out that the MDNA Tour is already among the top 10 biggest tours in history? He also needs to learn that the MDNA album (which consists of NEW songs) is currently the 5th best selling album in 2012 worldwide. Sir Elton's last hit was in 1997 and it was a recyling of Candle in the Wind. Just like how his "protege" Lady Xerox steals and recycles everything. Madge has hardly said two words about Gaga, but wow how those two, Sir Elton and Gaga have tried to play up every ounce of it for publicity. And by the way Sir Elton, real classy calling any woman a "C" on television. That shows wit and grace. Look, if Gaga has to put Sir Elton on her PR teams's payroll, then you know she's in trouble. Since gay bloggers couldn't help brain wash the LGBT community into thinking Born This Way was any good, or that she has any integrity (and she's totally irrelevant as an "icon") maybe they will stop printing her press releaes or trying to gush over her for free tickets. Sir Elton and Lady Xerox are 1% closet Republicans who are in it for the money and the exploitation. Ask Gaga, she's had more picture of herself topless and bragging about her drug use, like any meth head who has to strip for fix money at some suburban strip club. Rich White Trash both of them.

  22. what are you smoking ... Madonna is still producing records, films, on a huge tour that is sold out!! she is a mother and she is building schools in Malawi (sp). Gaga is great, but she even notes that Madonna is an influence!!

    Posted by: tommyboy10 | Aug 6, 2012 9:48:00 AM

  23. It's just pathetic.

    Posted by: homer | Aug 6, 2012 9:52:02 AM

  24. This isn't about whether Madonna is a has been or that she should move over and give the young blood some room. This is about Elton needing a reality check. Could Madonna have been more encouraging toward Gaga who is talented aritist in her own right? Could she have been more gracious and taken a higher road before saying her experience listening to Born this way felt reductive. Yes and Yes. But that isn't who Madonna is. You still have to admit that Born this way sounded eerily like Express yourself. But, calling Madge a see you next tuesday? While it may be true that Madonna could have gone in a different direction with her album, who is Elton to say? He has not produced anything as brilliant as Yellow Brick Road since Yellow Brick Road. Perhaps my biggest disappointment in Elton, besides his name calling, is how he took Candle in the wind from Marilyn and rededicated it to Princess Di. Couldn't he come up with anything original before Di's funeral came and went? Who's the C*nt Elton?

  25. Oops:

"John's publicity team contacted an Australian entertainment reporter to say the quotes were fabricated. When told they aired on television, John's team apparently said the conversation with Medrum was off the record."
