Is This the Loch Ness Monster?

Lochness

The myth persists, but this time a Scottish monster hunter is certain he's captured 'Nessie' in a new photograph:

"I was just about to return to Temple Pier (in Drumnadrochit) and I went to the back of the boat which was facing the pier and that’s when I saw it," said 60-year-old Mr Edwards, a lifelong believer in the monster.

"It was slowly moving up the loch towards Urquhart Castle and it was a dark grey colour. It was quite a fair way from the boat, probably about half a mile away but it’s difficult to tell in water."

After watching the object for five to 10 minutes, Mr Edwards said it slowly sank below the surface and never resurfaced.

"I’m convinced I was seeing Nessie as I believe in these creatures. Far too many people have being seeing them for far too long," he said.

  1. That's not Nessie, that's the Chick-fil-a cow. She needed to find an out of the way place to end her pain of embarassment.

  4. Interesting story but I wonder if tourism was low so he invented the sighting. To vote if Nessie is fact or fiction, visit the following link: http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/10623/20120803/poll-new-loch-ness-photo-proof-monster.htm

  5. It's long since been established that these "monsters" are nothing more than logs that are propelled to the surface of the Loch Ness by oxygen. Anyone who believes in them must also believe in Bigfoot and the idea that both can live forever or propagate without a mate. Or they're one of my moronic brothers.

Note: this isn't the 1600s, and today we have something called science.

  6. FYI, there's an interesting story about an American "lake monster," The Silver Lake Monster. Years later there was a news story that the local hotel had caught fire and the firemen discovered the canvas and rubber "monster" in the ashes.

That story is probably no more true than the original monster reports, so it's a double urban legend. Every year Silver Lake celebrates the Monster scam.

  7. Years ago I was staying in a hostel in Edingburgh and connected with some Australians who were bumming around the UK for a while. They had just come back from Inverness where they had gone swimming (this would have been in November) and the one guy I was talking to said the water was warmer than you'd expect and the pitch of the lake is very steep so you're in over your head in a matter of steps. Between those two factors and the pervasive legacy of Nessie, he -- this huge burly Australian -- managed to totally psych himself out and splashed around for a few seconds before panicking and swimming for shore.

Nothing has made me want to go swimming in Loch Ness more than that.

  8. Usually tabloids resort to Loch Ness Monster stories. Hey, when you're a gay website and you still run ads for Liza Minnell. Marriage equality seems to be shrinking.

  16. Funny how Nessie only makes appearances near obvious Scottish landmarks. Like the photographer really needs us to be convinced it really is at Loch Ness.
