Family Research Council Shooter Reportedly Carried Chick-fil-A Promotional Materials: VIDEO

Lanier

Some more information on the shooting at the Family Research Council headquarters in Washington D.C. this morning in which a security guard was shot. The local NBC affiliate is reporting that there were Chick-fil-A promotional materials in the shooter's backpack. He hasn't yet been identified.

“The security officer here is a hero, as far as I’m concerned,” Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier said. “He did his job. The person never made it past farther than the front door.”

The shooter entered the building at 801 G Street NW at around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. He approached the front desk and said he was an intern before pulling a Sig Sauer 9 mm handgun from a backpack. The guard confronted him, and they had an altercation before the shooter fired, striking the guard in the arm. Despite his injury, he gained control of the weapon and held it on the suspect.

Authorities found two loaded magazines with 15 rounds each in the suspect's backpack, as well as Chik-Fil-A promotional materials, NBC4's Jackie Bensen reported...

...The suspect's name has not yet been released, but he is from the D.C. area and was born in 1984, NBC's Pete Williams has learned. The suspect apparently took the Metro downtown and parked his car at a Falls Church Metro station, Williams said. It's not currently clear whether it was East or West Falls Church.

  1. I will not be a hypocrite and say I'm really upset about this. I'm not.

  2. It is very sad- but tragically funny to me somehow. Did Chic Fil A think their hatred had no repercussions? Of course- at least- not to them! Why would they care what hatred they spew? I want to just blame them. However- we have to wait and see what this cook was up to. I can just imagine what Russhhhh Limburger will say.

  4. This is a PR disaster for us. I don't think I've ever felt so much hate for anyone as I feel for this idiot/psychopath...talk about setting us back. Every claim of the right - our militant war on marriage and family values, our hate for them and thus our hypocrisy, and even our questionable mental health and sanity - has just been vindicated in the eyes of the American public.

Really, the anti-gay movement could not possibly have gotten any luckier...

  5. Guys, I'm a little disheartened by the way the commentators first reactions were to say that in no way could this possibly be a LBGT-friendly person, and must have been a confused conservative.

No one is responsible for this act of violence and domestic terrorism simply by being a member of the gay community (although Rick is pushing it, as many of you have pointed out)

You should take comfort in knowing this conservative isn't going to blame gays: I intend to blame liberals =)

  6. Young hip and conservative? That's an oxymoron if there ever was one. Please, Michaels of the world, take your paid trolling and shove it up your a--. This site doesn't need you. There are about 2500 anti-gay hate crimes a year, this might have been the first anti-evangelical hate crime EVER. Looks like the "hip conservatives" are the terrorists, not the liberals.

  7. If he grew up with a white family in Herndon, VA, trust me, he was growing up in a very conservative milieu. Certainly would have caused him to be conflicted with his own feelings (family calling him "homosexual") and contributed to a mindset where violence seemed like the only answer. As it so often does to conservatives.
