Ralph Reed Will Use Every Trick In The Math Book To Defeat Obama

Ralphreed"Ralph Reed is clearly relishing his revival." Those words, the first in a New York Times article about the evangelical operative's rise from the political ashes, should strike fear in anyone who remembers how Reed shaped the family values voting bloc that brought us the Christian Coalition and President George W. Bush.

Those who appreciate right wing fear mongering and exclusionary politics, meanwhile, will celebrate the news that Reed is now deeply ingrained in GOP efforts to elect Mitt Romney - or unseat President Obama, whichever comes first. And, yes, those efforts include Reed exploiting marriage equality debates and economic uncertainty.

In addition to its presidential election turnout campaign, the group plans to focus on two state ballot measures: a proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage in Minnesota and an effort to recall an Iowa Supreme Court justice who voted to legalize same-sex marriage in the state.

Mr. Reed and his allies agree that social issues alone will not turn the election.

Same-sex marriage, for instance, “doesn’t raise the temperature of the bulk of the Catholic Mass-going voters,” said Mr. Hudson, adding that while it was still a concern, "attitudes about homosexuals have changed so much over the last several years."

So the group plans to pair its social message with a broader economic one. The president’s health care overhaul will be depicted as both big government spending and an assault on religious liberty; the law mandates that employees of organizations affiliated with religions, like hospitals, universities and charities, be able to obtain free contraception through their health care plans.

As for the turnout campaign mentioned at the beginning of that excerpt, Reed's Faith and Freedom Coalition has amassed a list of about 17 million GOP-leaning religious voters.

This list came from mining Megachurch rosters, examining DMV registries for pick up truck owner and studying the people who downloaded Sarah Palin's Going Rogue and other conservative reading materials. Also, by their own admission, they also look for married folk who live in homes worth more than $100,000, because you gotta have math.

  1. Ralph Reid is a pipsqueak.

This blog post reads like the same kind of fear mongering in which he engages. If we gave him no attention he would fade away faster.

  2. I think it's ironic that Christian Religious Right figure like Ralph Reed is supporting Mitt Romney, a Mormon. Up til now they thought of Mormons as a mortal enemy.

I'm atheist so don't really have a horse in this race, but Mormonism is NOT a Christian religion. Jesus shows up in the Book Of Mormon, but it's a SEQUEL to the Judeo/Christian Bible and it changes the rules, what came before, so it's NOT the same thing.

If I write a sequel to The Lord Of The Rings set on the moon it's not "canon," it exists separately from JRR Tolkein's original books. That Joseph Smith was a convicted con-man is just the cherry on top of this particular sh*t-sundae.

  4. We all know that Ralph Reed, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Pat Robertson are some of the voices of the crazy right. Where can we read some of the opinions of the crazies of the left? Check out the comments sections on Towleroad. Fortunately their voices don't carry as far and wide as the crazies on the right, So the left is spared some embarassment.

  5. And ANDREW, if you stop commenting there would be one less "opinions of the crazies of the left"
You should follow your own advice.

  6. silly me. I thought the headline read "Ralph Reed Will Use Every Trick In The METH Book to Defeat Obama".

Considrin that Ralphie is the epitome of evangie-fundie white trash, maybe my first take is right.

Reed was neck-deep in the Jack Abramoff scandal, lobbying gambling interests, etc. to donate to the republicon party with under-the-table payments and favours to Reed.

Reed also was peripherally involved in the still-to-be-revealed scandal of a network of procuring call-boys for wealthy republicon operatives and donors on the Q-T (a certain then anti-gay, now out-gay pro-marriage republicon turncoat comes to mind). The scandal starts with Jeff Gannon.

  7. Ralph Reed is a CRIMINAL. He participated in, and benefited HUGELY in Monies, fom the perpetration of at Least Two Criminal Acts:

    - Defrauding Native American Tribes, with significant amounts of Abramoff Money going Directly into the hands of Ralph Reed & Grover Norquist, both self-proported 'men of God'
These 2 are among the Least Christ-Like individuals to Ever walk our planet

    - Benefiting monetarily from Abramoff & Tom DeLay setting up a Slave Colony, on the Marriana Islands, Under the US Flag, to Benefit a Known CRIMINAL, Willie Tan.

Ralph Reed needs to be in Prison and NOT Given a Seat at the table of American Discourse, and the same goes for Grover Norquist! Ask the Republican why these individuals are given a seat of such Prominence in the GOP? The answer is Republicans Don't Care WHERE there Power comes from, as long as they get and keep it!!. Why is it No Agency, Police Force has made him accountable?
