Towleroad Talking Points: Tax Returns, Homer Simpson and LiLo

A look back at today's big stories

After months of discussion over the lack of full disclosure regarding his taxes, Mitt Romney has decided to release his 2011 tax return. It seems the Romney campaign is trying to change the headlines, which of late have been mostly about Romney's flubs.

There was more unfortunate news for the Romney/Ryan camp today however. Paul Ryan made an appearance at the AARP Convention and suffice to say his speech didn't go over that well. Also Dan Savage believes that Romney is a homophobe. Not that Romney would care that much probably.

At the very least Romney can count on Homer Simpson's vote

There is a marriage equality referendum on the ballot in Washington State this November and the Catholic Church in the state is not too pleased. The Archbishop of Seattle released a video in which he says he believes that society would be "harmed beyond repair" if it were to pass. Yikes!

**

Clinton_stewartFormer President Bill Clinton's speech during the Democratic National Convention a few weeks ago was by most accounts a big success. Check out what Clinton himself had to say about it with Jon Stewart last night.

**

Paris Hilton was in the news yesterday, for the first time in awhile, and made a variety of disparaging comments about gay people. Well today she apologized and said she loves us. How great.

**

Sarah Silverman has a new message for the GOP and their attempt to disenfranchise voters. Check it out here. Go Sarah!

Video of the Day: Check out the first promo for Lindsay Lohan as Liz Taylor. Who wants to have a viewing party?

  1. Who cares if Mutt R. is a homophobe? The O-Man hasn't been much help to us Gays. One victory, over three years, does not win the war. Mutt's biggest strike is his views of survival of the financial fit. We as, Gays, need to lay off the marriage "issue", stop whining, not being seen by most Americans as the circus "freak show" and focus on the prize of getting the President re-elected. But, this is only one Gay man's thoughts.

  2. I don't understand the point of this new feature summarizing the day's posts on the blog. Those of us who read the blog have already read the posts, while those who log on late in the day can simply scroll down to see what was posted earlier. Is your goal to reach out to people who don't read the blog? Then there is no point in posting the summary here on the blog. Post it on Kenneth or Joe.My.God or somewhere else. Is your goal to make it easier for lazy people to read the blog? Honestly, how hard is it to scroll down the page? This daily summary seems like a copmplete waste of time and space to me.

  3. Romney is a mormon,of course he is a homophobe. The light is due to shine on his dubious religion very soon, and all those snakes in Romney's head will be there for all the world to see.

  4. M. Scott Hernandez, yes, why care if our President is a homophobe or not? Why care about the fact that a Romney victory would push back gay rights for decades. Why having equality before the law when you can sit in the backseat of the bus?
Gay men like you depress me.

  7. M.Scott Hernandez is a lying troll who apparently thinks the Presidency is an office that rules by fiat.

Obama is the most pro gay President in the history of this country and has publicly taken up gay rights.

To pretend otherwise is purest sophistry.

  8. - I like these summaries of the day's posts. It certainly helps when tracking down posts that are no longer on the bottom of the page, especially those posts of a couple of days ago.

    - I hope that people who are opposed to Obama because of his theological stance of supporting marriage equality, are consistent and oppose Romney because of his radically nonstandard Christianity.

  9. I have to say that I don't understand the point of this feature either. It's quicker to just scroll to the bottom of the page and scan the headlines than it is to read through the summary of the stories.

  10. i just wish the anti-Obama gays had the cojones to put a face to their comments. it sure is easy to be a boastful oh-so-perfect gay anti-Obama drone when you're treating the internet like a burqa, eh?

and Silverman's video is not only spot-on but one of the funniest damn things i've ever seen.
