British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Tells Members 'Ex-Gay' Therapy is 'Unethical'

And the "ex-gay" world continues to crumble.

BacpThe Guardian reports on a change "long demanded by rights groups":

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy has written to its near-30,000 members to inform them of the new guidelines. The letter says the BACP "opposes any psychological treatment such as 'reparative' or 'conversion' therapy which is based upon the assumption that homosexuality is a mental disorder, or based on the premise that the client/patient should change his/her sexuality". The body adds that it recognises World Health Organisation policy that says such therapies can cause severe harm to an individual's mental and physical health.

The statement, drawn up by the board of governors, ends: "BACP believes that socially inclusive, non-judgmental attitudes to people who identify across the diverse range of human sexualities will have positive consequences for those individuals, as well as for the wider society in which they live. There is no scientific, rational or ethical reason to treat people who identify within a range of human sexualities any differently from those who identify solely as heterosexual.":

Yes, repair therapy to treat gayism and lesbianism often fails but as said, that's also true for those who suffer from eating disorders, drugs and so on. People can not and should not be forced into repair therapy-that has to be something they truly want. It's hard to get neutral view on repair therapy to treat gayism/lesbianism because mainstream medicine such as AMA and APA are pro-homosexual ideologues. The American Medical Association (AMA) is dishonest when they say there's no link between homosexual rape in youth and adult homosexual behavior. There are gays who have said that they think being homosexually raped in their youths repeatedly is why they believe the do homosexual activities in adulthood. If they hadn't been homosexually raped, then it's possible they'd have turned out straight instead of gay. Repair therapists often get minors who have been sexually abused and who think childhood sex abuse is why they do gay activities.

Possibly other causes of gayism/lesbianism such as possibly birth defect if it's true there' a gay gene. But there is a gene for alcoholism, but we still do what we can to prevent those with alcoholic gene from being drunkards. People who take part in gay/lesbian behaviors must be viewed the same way as a drug junky. Science for repair therapy to treat gayism/lesbianism must be viewed neutrally, but it must not be banned because it fails alot of the time. Repair therapy to treat homosexuality advances and in the future, they could discover a cure for homosexuality and gayism. A shot, pill or surgery which can change both sexual orientation and behavior from gay to straight could eventually be found. Finally, I've never heard a straight person blame childhood sex abuse for a man being married to woman and having kids, but I sometimes hear gays and lesbians blame childhood sex abuse (especially homosexual rape in youth) for reason they do gay activities. No, not all who are sexually abused take part in gay/lesbian activities in adulthood and not all gays and lesbians are childhood sex abuse victims. But childhood sex abuse increases the risks a minor will do gay/lesbian behaviors in adulthood and to deny this is dishonest.

  3. @snowis fun :
I don't i've ever read so many discredited talking points passed off as facts. Pretending to be al "science-y" doesn't hide the fact your are just talking about the the same false statement handed down for decades. All gay people are rape victims, have issues with a parent, are the same thing as drug addicts. It's quite sad so many simply can't tell the difference between the facts and what bigots pretend are facts, even though they know they have been disproved over and over again.

  5. @SnowIsFun: When I was a little kid I will NEVER forget watching Anita Bryant on the Micheal Douglas show. She was saying awful things about gay people. Including the infamous, "did you know that gays eat their own sperm?" The thrust of her arguments were that gays are raped or abused when they were young. That was 40 years ago! Even though what she said scared me to death and filled me with self loathing, today I'm a happy and normal gay man.

  6. ... but still America (and the Republican Party) continue to push this dangerous, multi million dollar industry onto young and desperate Americans. America is no better than Russia or China in so many ways. How the mighty has fallen.

  8. If this movement against Ex-Gay Therapy spreads, what will "straight" Marcus Bachmann do for a living? Especially if his wing nut wife, Michelle, looses her House seat. They might have to go on welfare and food stamps provided by your friendly democrats. Oh, The Horror!
