Here's some new footage of the ConEd substation explosion in NYC during Hurricane Sandy that helped plunge much of lower Manhattan into darkness for what may be five or more days.

What you are seeing is not really an explosion, it is electrical arcing.
Explosions only last for milliseconds, sound like cannons, and do not repeat.
