The president said “Merry Christmas” several times, not “Happy Holidays”. I wonder how the uber-conservatives will handle this non-War on Christmas display by our Muslim president? Oh, right, they’ll ignore it.

    Nice tree.

Loved seeing two young black girls light the National Christmas Tree. Earlier in my lifetime (1957) they wouldn’t have been able to drink from the same water fountain as white people in some parts of the country. In 2012 they’re lighting the tree and living in the White House.

Yes Andrew it is truly amazing that we have an African American Presidential family and an Irish Americam NPH gay host lighting the national Christmas tree. However, I do not want people to forget that Barach is 1/2 White. About 161 years ago a 19 year old named Falmouth Kearney fled famine ravaged Ireland from the village of Moneygall Ireland and arrived in NYC on March 20, 1850 and he is the great, great, great grandfather of Barach Obama.Barach not only has roots in Kenya but has roots in Ireland. And as an Irish American whose grandparents were born in Ireland that thrills me. I am so proud of that fact. Did you know that over 37 million Americans have roots in that tiny Emerald Isle. Ireland Forever!

It’s awesome that Obama or his staff chose Neil Patrick Harris, probably the most popular gay male entertainer in the US, to host the ceremony.

Look up NPH videos on YouTube and read the comments some time. Thanks to the Harold & Kumar movies, his role as Barney Stinson on HIMYM, and the “Dr Horrible” musical he’s incredibly popular with the under-30 set and they don’t care that he’s gay. They just like him.
