Colorado Catholic Adoption Agencies Say They Won't Serve Gay Couples, Suggest It's Not 'Safe': VIDEO

As in many other cities and states that have approved marriage equality, Colorado's (where civil unions may soon be a reality) Catholic Charities are objecting to having to serve gay couples.

"Our desire is to provide them with a safe and stable environment."

9 News reports:

"The Catholic church understands the best foundation for a child's life is to be in the home of a father and a mother that is going to raise them in a family environment that is a strong, healthy marriage," said Monsignor Tom Fryar, who serves as pastor for the Denver Cathedral.

By dictionary definition, the church does discriminate when it comes to adoptions-- not just against gays but also against single people.

They only let married couples adopt. Even if the laws change, the church won't.

"We cannot," Fryar said. "It goes against our faith."

  1. Still this? I thought they would have least come up with a better argument by now.

  2. It's a win-win, I'd say. The Catholic adoptions end, meaning the kids won't be given to super-religious families only (I guess some would still be accepted), and gay couples get to adopt children in need.

  5. What's annoying is that no one in the media seems to pull them up on their comments on gays and say, "but you'll let the children near Catholic priest?"

  6. The last line in this story is the kicker:

AP - A woman and her boyfriend have been arrested in the U.S. after police found an 8-year-old developmentally disabled girl locked in a wooden cage while the rest of the family went to a movie.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reported Monday that officers checking on the girl’s welfare found her in the cage the size of a crib.

Authorities say 33-year-old Cindy Patriarchias and 37-year-old Edmond Gonzales of New Mexico remained in custody Tuesday after being arrested Friday.

Patriarchias is charged with negligently causing child abuse, and Gonzales with negligently permitting child abuse. Court records indicate they appeared in court Monday but haven’t yet entered pleas.

A police spokesman says Patriarchias has been trying to adopt the girl.

Wonderful. According to another story this woman already has 3 biological kids and all 6 of them live in a MOBILE HOME. Yes, 6 in a mobile home! I wonder, would the 'catholic' adoption agency in the original story rather place this girl in a "home" like that, rather than a stable home with a gay couple? Would they be so blinded by their faith based bigotry that this straight couple would be considered better parents just because they were straight?

  7. I pray that these allegations aren't true because it saddens me that anyone could treat a child this way.

  8. So the pedophiles are pointing the finger at a different group arguing that group might be a danger to kids. I'll keep my kids away from the church, thank you very much!

  9. Same faith that kept quiet as Nazis funneled stolen Jewish loot their way to say nothing about the atrocities during WWII. Yeah, real moral high ground you stand on.

  10. No Birth Control, No Abortion, No Women's Rights, Yes Unwanted Children and No Gays .... These 'experts' on 'parenting' have quite a circle going. Children will be better off without these people - and if they're getting ONE Civic/Tax Dollar - They should be cut off immediately.

  11. I agree with this adoption agency. Gay couples shouldn't adopt. It's wrong. A child deserves to have a mother & father. Being raised in a gay home makes a child think being gay is okay which it is not.
