Insane Video of Last Night's Marriage Equality Hearing in Rhode Island: WATCH

Here's an awesome kid testifying for marriage equality in Rhode Island.

While the religious wingnuts outside in the Capitol...

...are frothing, speaking in tongues, and practically having seizures because the kid's parents simply want to be married.

Check out the video, AFTER THE JUMP...

The AP reports:

About 300 supporters and opponents signed up to address the legislative committee reviewing the bill — they were limited to 2 minutes each to keep the hearing from going all night — while hundreds more gathered in the hallways outside the hearing.

Downstairs, a raucous rally of gay-marriage opponents beneath the Statehouse rotunda at times drowned out those testifying in the third-floor committee room.

The Providence Journal reports: "The committee voted at the start of the meeting to hold the bill for further study. A vote to send it to the House floor could happen next week at the earliest, said House spokesman Larry Berman."

  1. Everyone catch the lady whose sign misspelled "redefine?" Way to be a role model for logical thinking and reasonableness, sister!

  2. Thanks for the info, Ratbastard. Especially the ethnic info. (I didn't know that about New Hampshire, but the best French restaurant meal I ever ate, in the U.S., was in NH !)

  3. More : Vermont and NH are the "whitest" states in the U.S.

  7. Littlekiwi seems unaware that one can support same-sex marriage equality for the exact same reasons that one supports allowing people to defend themselves with firearms.

  8. @eyeroll,

Ratbastard only sees things through bigoted lenses. Since Rhode Island doesn't have a large African American population, he has to focus on something else. Even if that something else is wholly irrelevant to the gay marriage debate, like in this instance. Incidentally, his "fun facts" are incorrect. Rhode Island's four main ethnic groups have long been Irish, Italian, English and French, and historically the main political jobs (2 congressmen and 2 senators) were divided among these four groups. Irrelevant I know, but at least it's irrelevant and accurate.

  9. Hey, maybe "redifine" means "don't limit marriage to consenting heterosexual couples". She does support us!

  10. Watching this video(except for the testimony of that young boy!) makes me ashamed to be a Rhode Islander. I've been to this circus side-show many times, and even testified a couple times in past years. It's like descending into the bowels of hell. For the last fifteen years, the same obtuse and nasty haters, spewing the same lies and nonsense, has over-run the statehouse. It doesn't help that the Catholic Church still has a death grip here, and the good local Bishop makes it's feelings about gays well known. Despite all that, I'm encouraged that each time one of these bills is introduced, we get a little closer to passing marriage equality. I hope this year is the one that we finally do it.

  11. Ah! The stench of christian bigotry wafts through the morning air. Watching this video of those evangelicals makes me hope that the lunacy of their actions is imprinted in the minds of rational people. It is time to end this "dictatorship of believers", once and for all, by any means necessary.
