Towleroad Talking Points: Guns, Defense, and Gallaudet

A look back at today's top stories

Radical nutjob, 9/11 truther and staunch pro-gun advocate Alex Jones appeared on Piers Morgan last night where he was invited by the host to discuss, among other things, his petition to deport the British host. However the discussion quickly devolved into Jones displaying just how classless and out of it he really is. Jones also followed up the interview with an even more disturbingly paranoid and rambling YouTube video.

As the Log Cabin Republicans continue to attack President Obama's nomination of Chuck Hagel to Defense Secretary, many are starting to wonder just where they are getting all the money to do so. The Gallaudet University Diversity officer who showed how much she truly cares about diversity by signing a petition to put marriage equality to a vote back in October, has somehow managed to get her job back

Some semblance of sanity involving the wingnuts at the Boy Scouts of America where a local California chapter is challenging the Scouts anti-gay stance by approving gay scout Ryan Andresen's application for Eagle status

NPR has given their spoken word performance of the year award to 15-year-old Noah St. John for his beautiful and moving story about how he was raised by two Moms. Congrats to him!

DOMA rears it's ugly head in a case involving an Army Staff Sergeant who lost her wife in Afghanistan and is outrageously being denied benefits

Jon Stewart is not at all pleased about the House Republicans' inability to help Sandy victims and last night he let them know about it. Also Neil Patrick Harris thinks everyone's dreams are better than his

@TAN VAMPIRE: I’m questionable on the 2nd Amendment and the prevailing wing-nut interpretation of said amendment, but I am an absolutist on the 1st Amendment, especially for odd-ball video postings such as what you linked.

Not sure what to make of the video (and I admit to not “getting” irony sometimes and that video is full of “irony”, I think) but, um, never mind.

    Thanks, anyway.

Congrats to Noah for his inspirational story. May this be a testimony how beautiful life is. It only means that being Mom knows what is best for her children.

  3. says

Noah is lucky to be raised by two moms. My mom died when I was born. I do not have any memory about her. Noah is blessed that he has two moms. He should love both of them.

  4. says

Noah’s story is so uplifting. I am encourage to be generous at all times because you can never tell how far will one’s generosity can go. Just like, the generosity of Noah’s two moms.

Sandy victims have experienced a tragic and deadly incident in their lives. I understand why Jon Stewart is not at all pleased about the House Republicans’ inability to help Sandy victims. The Sandy victims are helpless and they are only relying on the government.

On the issue of wingnuttery, I believe, gun is not evil in itself. It can be used to save lives and it can also be a weapon for killing. I just hope that gun-owners would be responsible enough not to use the weapon in evil purposes.

Being a gay scout is something to be commended. Actually, being a soldier or in the military should not be based only on how masculine a man is. As long as he is physically and mentally fit and responsible enough to do his duties, then that’s what matters most.
