Westboro Baptist Church Files Amicus Brief in SCOTUS Prop 8 Case; Will Join NOM at Rally in March

The Westboro Baptist Church has joined those filing amicus briefs in the Prop 8 case before the Supreme Court, Good As You reports, using verses from the Bible as its legal citations.

Check it out, AFTER THE JUMP...

Phelps-roperWrites the WBC, in conclusion:

Same-sex marriage will destroy this nation. If the leaders of this country treat what God has called abominable as something to be respected, revered, and blessed with the seal of approval of the government, that will cross a final line with God. The harm that will befall this nation, when the condign destructive wrath of God pours out on a nation that purposefully, in a calculating manner, institutionalizes marriage licenses for same-sex unions, is the ultimate harm to the health, welfare and safety of the people. The government is duty bound – in this Christian nation – to institute the standard of God on marriage, and pass and uphold laws that forbid same-sex marriage.

“Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of theLORD your God.” What interest could be more compelling for the government than to seek the blessings of God on this nation, by obeying His commandments and following His standards?

And that rally and march that the National Organization for Marriage is planning on March 26? Westboro will be there beside them, of course.

  1. NOM and WBC? Now, that's a match made in...

Suck it Bri! Have fun with Shirley!

  2. Maggie and Shirley can bond over having children out of wedlock and repenting for their sin by hating gays :)

But seriously, this is a GIFT.

  3. YES YES YEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! I phucking love it.

  4. NOM + WBC, reminds me of the old saying:
"You can judge a person by the company they keep"

  5. WBC is doubtless sincere, but their participation with NOM is almost subversive.

  6. The way things are going the anti-gay Christian religious fanatics will destroy the world with their hate and suppression of anybody not like them. These anti-gay Christians remind me of Hitler and his ally Mussolini who were both Catholic religious fanatics and we all know that the Catholics are spending millions and working hard to stop LGBT people and their allies anyway they can, in the world today.

  7. Did they invite KKK to boost their number? Brian should make a video to show us how many people participated as he did in France.

  8. Citations to cases: 8
    Citations to the Bible: 36.

  9. We need gun control fast before these Westburp Baptist crazies start shooting up the country in the name of God. You know they are crazy enough to do it. They see themselves as the instruments of the righteous wrath of their hateful god. I hope they don't have guns.

  10. Brilliant!! Bring your whole damn church, and make sure Brian doesn't make you guys hide in the back! Be loud and proud -- it's the best gift we could ask for.

  11. is 'condign' used legally? it's not grammatically correct unless this is a legal phrase. it should be 'condigned' - 'condign' means deserve, so it is in keeping with their 'god hates America' meme.

in short, same old, same old. i wonder if even Scalia will throw up reading their amicus?

  12. From their brief:

"After the tragicevents of September 11, 2001, WBC increased its street and social-media ministry, urging Americans toput away policies of proud sin, mourn, repent, andobey God. Today the number one moral issue facing this nation is same-sex marriage."

Somehow they have connected 9/11 to gay marriage. Brilliant!

  13. Perhaps this is a plus? I doubt Kennedy, and perhaps Roberts, would want to be remembered as coming down on the side of Westboro, especially when society is fast moving in our direction.

  14. NOM and Westboro both "protested" on the same day in New York City, when the first same-sex marriage licenses were issued in New York State.

  15. Perfect... NOM just can't help their mad dash to sideline themselves... joining forces with these sideshow freaks that EVERYONE in America hates, puts them SQUARELY in the camp of crackpot hater!

  16. Yes Shirley, gay sex will destroy the world. Every time Ellen goes down on Portia, 3 dozen Christian babies die. Whenever NPH gives David Butka a rimjob, 100 Jesus-loving teenage girls became unwed single mothers.

Only you and your crazy eyes can save America from the Satan-worshiping queers, Mrs. Phelps! Quickly, before Elton John gets feltched by David Furnish, causing an asteroid to strike the Earth and plunge it into another Ice Age!

    Posted by: FuryOfFirestorm | Jan 30, 2013 3:53:13 PM

  17. Well that says it all. I am sure that NOM will be happy to be linked with the most reviled of congregations on the continent. Great to see WBC and NOM partnering. Speaks to just what NOM is. Hopefully all the smart Americans will now see it too.

  18. ....We must all remember that the Westboro freaks are attention-whores. They make their money (as lawyers, no less) by suing and taking settlements...they drag their little "children of the corn" out to protest with filthy, hateful signs in hopes that one of the little tykes gets winged by a Big Gulp cup of a counter- protester so they can build a REALLY great case.

Their "church" consists of almost all family members and the membership is less than 100.I used to want them to go away, but now, I kind of want to see what this latest caper comes down to. Ol' Shirl will be there with her Prairie-hag crazy face and her ugly bony legs....just itching for trouble. I wonder why SNL hasn't done a satire skit on this group of whack-jobs?...oh, well, on second thought, there is no way to parody them. The ARE a parody already, so why waste the time or effort.Let's hope this whole "event" will be an epic fail. Play nice, trolls, play nice..We are on to you. Each and every one of us.

  19. LOL Why don't they just write us all off and go somewhere and let god have his wrath? That's what I don't get. It's not like they love others enough to care if god smites us all and sends us all to hell, so why not just let us go there? If they REALLY thought there was a god who would unleash his wrath they'd leave the country post haste and let us all get what we have coming. What they're truly afraid of is that marriage equality will be achieved and...nothing will happen, because there is no god to hate fags.

  20. I have a hunch NOM considers the WBC to be interlopers and would probably just as soon the WBC not involve themselves, for the very reasons cited in the comments above. That having been said, I think this will help our side more than if they weren't involved.

    Posted by: Stan D | Jan 30, 2013 5:42:47 PM

  21. When the most hated and hateful group of people on the planet are against you: That is great news.

    Posted by: andrew | Jan 30, 2013 6:18:19 PM

  22. @Gigi: I don't want the WBC and NOM to be there "arm in arm", but rather WBC's Freddie Phelps and NOM's Brian Brown to be there "c__k in mouth". Maybe mutually at the same time.

The best reason not to call those two clowns closet cases is that Freddie probably can't get it up and Brian has a $500K per year incentive to spew.

    Posted by: Bill | Jan 30, 2013 6:35:28 PM

  23. I don't think we need to worry about the Westboro folks as their so called legal brief is from the bible and won't hold much water in court....they write their own suicide and just look plain stupid and silly.........NOM too is running out of anything smart to say.....

    Posted by: Bernie | Jan 30, 2013 6:46:20 PM

  24. This will definitely drive Kennedy and Roberts to our side. Keep it going!

    Posted by: Anthony | Jan 30, 2013 7:26:55 PM

  25. This is great news, I couldn't be happier. Let the America that just reelected a black man that supports SSM see the WBC and NOM join forces!
