Mike Huckabee: Evangelicals Will 'Take a Walk' if GOP Supports Marriage Equality - VIDEO

Huckabee

Mike Huckabee is asked by Newsmax if he thinks the GOP will pivot to support marriage equality:

“They might. And if they do, they’re going to lose a large part of their base because evangelicals will take a walk. And it’s not because there’s an anti-homosexual mood, and nobody’s homophobic that I know of, but many of us, and I consider myself included, base our standards not on the latest Washington Post poll, but on an objective standard, not a subjective standard. I have great sympathy and extraordinary admiration for Sen. Portman. I consider him a friend and I value his work in the Senate and think he’s a great person. The mistake is that we sometimes base our public policy decisions on how we feel, how we think, maybe even some personal experiences, and we don’t regard a lot of these issues from the standpoint of an objective standard."

  1. You know things are changing when an Evangelical leader feels the need to emphasize that he is not homophobic / doesn't have a problem with gay people.

  2. Isn't Mike Huckabee the same fuckhead who once said: "I PERSONALLY believe that children do better when they are raised by a mother and father"? And isn't he and his other ignoramus friends in the GOP the ones who are constantly saying: "I personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman"? Now all of a sudden he doesn't believe in governing based in opinion, but instead facts? This would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic. Apparently this airhead doesn't realize that the facts are totally against him. Furthermore, what exactly does he think the bible is? Probably fact, too. Poor deranged soul. Go talk to sky daddy some more, and leave politics to those with a functioning brain.

  5. Where are you going to "take a walk," Huck? To some fringe party that will never win an election outside the South? Welcome to even deeper irrelevance than you already have.

  9. Their words say We're not homophobic or anti-homosexual but their actions confirm exactly the opposite.

  12. "The mistake is that we sometimes base our public policy decisions on how we feel, how we think, maybe even some personal experiences, and we don’t regard a lot of these issues from the standpoint of an objective standard."

An 'objective standard' for morality becomes irrelevant when the world in which the standard came to be changes. Fucakabee isn't the first fundagelical to decry actual thinking and analysis. The world has changed, and his so-called 'biblical standard' of morality is largerly irrelevant. He and his band of knuckle-dragging will continue to hold to their superstitious beliefs despite NEW information, and NEW standards of societal belief. And THAT is what makes them the very definition of 'bigots'.

  13. And that is why you don't pander to the fringe in order to build your base. Any time you want to try to become more middle of the road (in essence, becoming more representative of ALL of America), you have the vocal members threatening to vote against you. You've lain down with dogs, GOP, since the Reagan era. Don't look so shocked now that you have fleas.

  15. Huckabee has no objective standard. He just outsources his standards to the authors of his favorite version of a book written long ago, who had their own subjective standards. (By the way, one of the amicus briefs describes in detail how that same book was commonly known to support slavery and oppose interracial marriage -- indeed any marriage of black people to anyone)

    He's a fool.

  17. Keep in mind that HUCKABEE is the person that Rince Priebus said the Republican party should model after when it comes to outreaching out to the GLBT community, as their "2012 autopsy" suggested was necessary if they are to be a viable political option in the future!

THIS is what the leader of the Republican Party thinks is compassionate, effective outreach.

So GOProuders and Log Cabiners, what say ye to this?

  18. Yeah, I don't base my standards on actual living loving fellow creatures; I base my standards on the supernatural, like ghosts, goblin-devils, flying angels, and on the warnings they give us with earthquakes, floods, meteors from heaven and the like.

Our 'One Book Creed' is not like those other 'One Book Creeds', the Koran, the Book of Mormon; our book is better and we get talking snakes and animals walking two by two, and brimstone; I love brimstone !

Mormons only get disappearing Gold Plates and Magic Underwear.
And the Islamics, well, they get the sun and the desert.....and all that killing stuff.
But our Book is best, although I don't like that Fat man getting through the eye of the needle part.

  19. Huckleberry and his base soon will take a walk and never return to this World. As George Will predicted: the opposition is dying.

  21. When evangelicals push to repeal divorce laws I'll start having respect for them. They base their rabid opposition to marriage equality on some rather obscure biblical passages that say nothing about marriage but only lump homosexuality in with a laundry list of other sins. But Jesus says three times in the Gospels that if one divorces and remarries--or if you marry a divorced person--you are committing adultery. Huckabee and all the others are rank hypocrites as they never even mention divorce when decrying the "destruction of marriage". Of course not, most of them are divorced and remarried adulterers, according to the words of their own Savior.

  22. because Evangelicals care more about hating gays than about helping the poor or living in a country that treats its citizens the way that "Christ" fella would have.

fun biblical fact - the story of Sodom is actually about the hoarding of wealth and provisions. the scriptural figure of Jesus would have hated a healthcare system run for profit.

at least the Huckster's being honest - anti-gay prejudice is the GOP's most favoured tool.

his idea of being "objective", however, is too freakin' funny for words. the man DEFINES backwards.

  23. The man whose son hanged a dog from a tree and threw rocks at it

    killing the dog

Every time this man opens his mouth, the media should just mention the issue with his son and dismiss him

  24. If and when they take that walk, I suggest they do on a very short pier.

  25. An objective standard to use? Like the Bible? Rape, murder, incest -- all run rampant in that book. How about some other objective standard, like "it's what we've always done". Well, that's full of slavery, racism, hatred, flat-out bigotry, and misogyny.

Perhaps an objective standard would be something different. Something these folks have never seen.
