The Coolest Astronaut on the ISS Says Good-bye With Completely Amazing Music Video: WATCH

Hadfield

Over the past few months I've been posting videos of Commander Chris Hadfield aboard the International Space Station educating the public about various things that happen in space (like how astronauts sleep, what happens to tears when you cry, what happens to a washcloth when you wring it out, and what rocket launches look like).

Hadfield, a Canadian, is leaving the ISS and coming back to Earth tonight. For his farewell, he recorded a revised version of David Bowie's "Space Oddity", the first music video made in space. I think you'll agree Hadfield is the coolest guy to ever orbit the Earth.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Hadfield transferred command of the ISS to Russian cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov at 3:40 pm ET today. He'll be headed home soon.

And his reflections on his mission:

  16. Awesome, awesome guy. I wonder how many thousands of kids will be inspired to take up an aerospace career because of him. He's done more than anyone I can remember in the last 2 decades to humanize spaceflight -- and remind us why we put people in space in the first place. Bravo!

  17. Can Canadians ever be cool? Pffttt... Ryan Gosling? Cool. Bryan Adams? Cool? Alanis Morrisette? Cool. Wayne Gretsy? Cool. Ryan Reynolds? Cool. Keanu Reeves? Well, sorta cool. Christopher Plumber? William Shatner? Nelly Furtado? Michael J. Fox? k.d. lang? Neil Young? Mary Pickford? Rufas Wainright? Alexander Graham Bell? Terry Fox? Kim Catrall? Brendan Fraser? Victor Garber? Jack Kerouak? Deamau5? We cool enough for you yet? That's just the tip of the iceberg. Okay, so we unleashed Celine Dion and Justin Beiber on the world, but don't hold that against us. You Americans gave us the Kardashians, Lindsey Lohan, Wal*Mart and McDonald's. It's not like you have a stellar record on coolness and culture, do you?
