Anti-Gay Protesters Disrupt French Open: Video

Frenchopen
A group of anti-gay marriage protesters (one of them a shirtless, flare-carrying masked man) stormed the French Open today, startling players Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer.

MSNBC reports.

Security guards quickly grabbed the protester and dragged him to the locker rooms as a surprised Nadal looked on. The unidentified man was one of several shirtless men who donned masks to protest France’s same-sex marriage law, which went into effect several weeks ago.

Two other protesters were escorted off the grounds after they unfurled a banner reading, “Help! France tramples on the rights of children!”

Nadal won the match, securing his eigth French Open win.

  1. So exactly what is the point of all the anti protests in France? Marriage equality is now law.

  6. Run at me while I'm holding a racket, bigot. See what happens. ... ... ... ACE!

  7. Was that another protester being rushed off on the side just before the flame guy shows up? It appears as though a security guy is rushing someone out of the courtside seats before the other guy appears on the court. How are these idiots protecting the rights of children at an adults' tennis match? Flaming breeders...I just don't get it.

  8. Yup, not proclaims my heterosexuality and my hate of all things queer like wearing a Phantom mask, going shirtless and protesting a tennis match with flares.... HUH?

  9. It is really sad that these guys don't have something better to do with their lives than be angry about someone else's happiness. I guess we have westboro Baptist.

  10. I have to agree shirtless and flaming is pretty gay.

  11. These bigots are relentless, their acts are pathetic, heartbreaking and completely unjustifiable.

  12. And just like Westboro they're not winning any friends.

  13. Perhaps not surprisingly, the french closet cases are real drama queens.

  14. So the flaming shirtless dude being hugged by a hunky man from behind is anti-gay protestor. Totally unsurprising.

  15. French always loved to protest. Let's see what's the next protest when this wears off.

  16. i felt sorry for ferrer and nadal, who had absolutely nothing to do with france's marriage equality law, and were just trying to earn a few hundred thousand dollars at work. some will do anything for attention.

  17. What's going on in France is pretty disgusting at this point. It's been a month now essentially and there are still people being bashed on a nearly daily basis and these ridiculous protests. All because the country gives equality to GLB folk. So sad.

What's scary is there is no real end goal anymore. Marriage and adoption equality is legal in France. This is really about terrorizing people at this point.

  18. Would have been really cool if Nadal dropped that racket and sucker-punched that protestor knocking him out and to the ground. The fans would have gone nuts!

On American TV former tennis player and now host John McEnroe had no kind words for the protestors and had to curtail his language several times. I could have swore he was bleeped.

  19. Congratulations to Rafa for the win. Eight times. See you at the all England club señor.

  20. Unmask that flaming protestor immediately!

After the murder of a gay man in the street, for folks to show up like this means that the opponents are not yet vilified enough.

    Put his picture everywhere.

  21. This is why no one goes to Europe on vacation anymore.

  22. I have highlights almost the same color as that guy's, but his shoes indicate that he's not gay or perhaps even French.

  23. Even though I thought what the hell, when it happened, it livened up just a bit a rather dull tennis match. Just a tiny bit.

  24. I'm glad that opponents are still making a fuss and protesting. France may have gay marriage, but that doesn't mean the people who're against it shouldn't let it be known and send the message that just because it's legal doesn't mean we like you or what you're doing.
