  1. Durham, NC pride is not until Sept. This Durham pride event was in Canada.

  2. re: eyeliner. that kid's mom is a freakin' GEM.

newsflash: "because we don't like it/don't get it" is not a justified excuse. it'd get you a failing grade in debate, and any educator who espouses such nonsense is an insult to the institution of education.

re: Zimmerman - praying they don't get an all-racist jury that leads to some "Ghosts of Mississippi" bullcrap. Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin. And should go to prison for life.

That Texas kid deserves a hearty round of applause.

And a candle lit for Nelson Mandela.

  3. re Texas kid: Belton, TX is no hotbed of tolerance or enlightenment. That took stones. Enjoy Austin, young man.

  8. I wish Biebes would crawl back under a rock in the Canadian shield. Christ, he's embarassing.

  9. I wish people would stop picking on Bieber. What I find embarrassing is grown people bullying a 19 yo. Calling him out when he does stupid things is ok but the amount of hate behind it is way out of proportion imo and has a lot to do with him being small and girlish looking.

  10. The problem with JB is the idiocy of his fans more than him personally. He's a manufactured performer with little natural talent and lots of looks to attract indiscriminate tweener customers. It's all completely cynical marketing by the record industry.

  11. Meanwhile Split, Croatia, had a VERY successful pride with the mayor at the head of the parade -- probably the first time that's ever happened in the Balkans, and much better than their first time around (2011).

  12. Boy wearing eyeliner? Loser. Being gay doesn't mean you have to act like a girl.

  13. @ MIKE: let's hope you neither conceive nor adopt any children. You clearly lack simple humanity.

  14. anon, he is no more "manufactured" than any of the other popular musical acts out there, just to a less popular audience. You don't think Rock acts are manufactured with a certain image for a certain demographic. How about Rhianna?

Bieber actually has a great story - singing and teaching himself three instruments as a child, busking on the streets, entering local contests, then putting his stuff up on youtube and growing his audience using youtube and social media. Yet somehow he's "manufactured" but everyone else on the pop charts is not?

  15. The coming out story from the Belton young man did not make the local news in Central Texas. If you ignore it, it didn't happen. The local university, Mary-Hardin Baylor is a Baptist supported institution. Hope he helps to keep Austin weird.
