    The things that dropped off were its old skin — if that’s the right word. The whole process is basically shedding the old caterpillar skin revealing the chrysalis skin underneath.

    Jersey, Black Swallowtail caterpillars eat exclusively members of the carrot family like dill and parsley and Queen Anne’s Lace, so those are the most likely places you will find them.

    I think it is getting ready for a migration soon to warmer climates, like the Monarch butterfly that goes to Mexico for the winter? Perhaps that is why it is doing this now?
