Christine Quinn Subjected to Anti-gay Death Threats During NYC Mayoral Campaign

Christine QuinnOpenly gay New York City mayoral candidate Christine Quinn has received several antigay death threats while on the campaign trail, her wife Kim Catullo revealed in an interview with the New York Daily News yesterday.

"Chris has gotten threats about being gay. It's hard to accept and we live in a place that is the most tolerant," said Catullo, who has lived with Quinn for 12 years and married her last year when New York State legalized same-sex marriage.

"I worry about everything, if she is getting enough rest, is she safe," said Catullo, who did not specify the nature of the threats.

A campaign spokesman confirmed the threats but did not want to elaborate.

Catullo said recent hate crimes against gays in the city - including in the couple's old block in Chelsea - have been sobering. "When you have strides like marriage equality, you tend to think (prejudice) has passed, then things like that happen, and it wakes you up again," she said.

  2. Hopefully her own people didn't make those threats for votes...

  3. The most likely suspects are trans activists. Many are are violent and homophobic. They particularly hate lesbians. They stalk and harass lesbians at Michfest and even surrounded a lesbian at the 2012 Dyke March. I'd bet money that the culprits are trans activists.

  5. I don't believe the Chelsea block bashing was not reported here.

  6. Didn't Ann Romney say the same sort of thing when Mitt was tanking in the campaign?

  7. A bit off topic, however, I believe that David Mixner has supported Ms. Quinn's campaign. David's blog hasn't been updated since August 14th and there was no indication that he was going to be incommunicado. Anyone have contact or know anything about how he is doing?

  8. Based on Quinn's history of re-inventing history, I wonder if these threats were actually made or if she fabricated them to make herself appear like a public servant.

  9. Some people think she made up threats? Oh brother. Are we going to start accusing anyone who gets bashed of bashing themselves?

    On an unrelated note, her staff was incredibly helpful to me and my husband when we were planning a Times Square wedding last year. I've never actually dealt with anyone in office who made it so easy.

  10. Quit lying Quinn; If there are still anti-gay deaths and violence and anti-gay threats, then it is not the most tolerant place.

  11. It's 2013. If you haven't had at least one death threat, you don't exist.

  12. Oh please -- what, were these threats staged by Quinn in a last ditch effort to cultivate sympathy for her mayoral run because she seek to be Bloomberg in bad drag??? She's a HORRIBLY unprincipled and CONNIVING conservaDem and new yorkers deserve MUCH BETTER than this ridiculous pretender....She should be ashamed of herself!

  13. It's Quinns version of the Reichstag fire.

  14. I'm always surprised at the number of seemingly intolerant and rude people that comment in this area. Especially given the homoerotic content in this blog.

  15. @SERENE;

    Nice to see you try out your tired thesis using a "Feminine Name".

    Hey Brian/Alan/Mark/Rick/Serene;

    Doesn't that go against your theory about masculinity...pretending to be a female?

    Oops! Someone's Dogma ate their homework.

  16. Politicians and public persons get threats to their safety all the time.

  17. Clearly a PR stunt to make people feel sympathetic for Quinn, who is herself a vindictive bully. They're trying to soften her image as she falls behind in the polls.

  18. Quinn is slipping in the polls. You can bet this is a bid for sympathy. She's probably been getting death threats for years, so mentioning them now is a bit desperate.
