Road US Attorney General Eric Holder announced yesterday that he will work to cut mandatory minimum sentences for low-level drug offenses, stating that "too many Americans go to too many prisons for far too long."

  2. Reducing the number of people imprisoned for minor drug law violations is long overdue. The specious and panicked reasoning that produced those "minimum sentences" is too idiotic to maintain. But while changes will implement justice, I suspect the greater motive isa desire to cut down on the enormous cost of keeping people locked up.
