CNN's Chris Cuomo and Catholic Blowhard Bill Donohue Have It Out Over Pope Francis, Gays: VIDEO

Chris Cuomo, the host of CNN's New Day, blasted Catholic League President Bill Donohue's views on gays in a discussion about yesterday's Pope Francis interview, CNN reports:

C_cuomoCuomo said, “You have bashed on these issues for years and years. Most infamously, recently, saying that the Church had a homosexual problem, not a pedophile problem. I mean really incendiary, flagrant, divisive stuff…. You’re saying you won’t do that anymore?”

Donohue replied, “Oh no, I will always tell the truth –“

“Well, that wasn’t the truth,” Cuomo countered.

“If 81% of the victims are male and 100% of the victimizers are male, and if 78% of the victims are post-pubescent, the word in the English language is not pedophilia, it’s called homosexuality,” Donohue said.

When Donohue asked Cuomo if he thinks he “made up those figures,” Cuomo replied, “I think you’re parsing them, I think you’re cherry-picking them and I think that the most important part is your motivation. You just heard what the Pope said. Why wouldn’t you try to move past this parsing rhetoric and try to be what your church is supposed to be about?”

  1. If 100% of priests are male, and 80% of the kids available to them are altar boys, then, yeah, you are going to have a lot of male/male predation. Idiot. Look at the numbers as a whole.

  2. And if 100% of the perps are Catholic priests, what then? Abolish the priesthood? OK.

  3. Dear Bill Donahue, pedophiles are neither gay nor straight. Pedophiles are pedophiles! Most pedophiles, while they may prefer a certain sex over the other, are mainly just interested in prepubescent humans, and will take either sex if they get the chance. When you say "I have problems with molesters, whether they be gay or straight," you lose all credibility because that statement shows your ignorance on the issue.

It's one man with a computer and fax machine.

  5. a useless as i find cnn's morning segment, especially compared to morning joe, that was a great take down, but it must have been frustrating to have donahue wiggling around the point, dodging the truth.

  6. The Vatican is the original Italian Mob. And Dolan's imagines himself as one of the 'godfathers' of it.

  7. Dolan / Donahue ... whatever, just another of the army of 'straght', old, balding, fat, white men crying like babies that their privileged status at the top of the political pyramid isn't a 'given' anymore.

  11. Mr. Donohue has no interest in following the Pope. He is in it for the money. Period.

  12. He is an old fart with ancient, outdated views of life, of love, so ignore him.

  13. The Catholic League is not a part of the Catholic church. Bill Donahue is not a priest or cleric of any sort. Bill is a loud mouth with an opinion, working to destroy the good work of the Pope.

  14. It's sickening to listen to a man in Dolan's position claiming that Priests having sex with prepubescent boys is not pedophilia. It's the very definition of pedophilia. Just like Priests having sex with prepubescent girls is not about heterosexuality, it's also pedophilia. The power dynamic is the constant in both and that's what makes it pedophilia, hetero or homo.

Chris Cuomo called him out perfectly. Motivation.

Every Catholic I've ever talked to despises Dolan. Every single one.

  16. How can anyone accept the invitation to television and talk out such delusional opinions. No wonder the Catholic Church is falling apart from inside.

  18. The guy is a pig in a cheap suit and his point about gay people is repugnant but it is even more offensive about the people who have been abused.

How can it matter what sort of abuse has taken place? Totally dismissive of the victims all in an effort to make gay people the villains.

Perhaps this explains why the church kept moving priests around, cuz it isn't an issue of abuse just a gay sex problem.

  19. "we're not gonna shut up because we're incontinent... uh, compliant..."
I love it! Bill Donohoe's diarrhea of the mouth! If that isn't the Freudian slip of the year!

  20. Donohue is the gay Catholic's guilty conscience. We need old religious bastards like this to prevent the production of another "The New Normal"

  21. I just wonder why the news media keeps giving Bill Donahue ANY COVERAGE!!
The Catholic league is JUST man.
Why does he deserve ANY airtime at all?

  22. I wonder if the people who pay his salary double down and start asking him to attack the pope indirectly. He's a mouthpiece for reactionary Catholics. If you really want to go after him, you need to ask him about Jews, not gays, though.

  23. Thank you Woody - that's what I thought I heard.

  24. CNN was a brilliant addition to their news team. He and Anderson need to do a beach surf rescue segment together.
