Gay Texas Man Brutally Beaten After Meeting Stranger on Social Networking App: VIDEO

Arron Keahey, a 24-year-old gay man from Springtown in north Texas, was brutally beaten over Labor Day weekend after meeting a stranger using the social networking app MeetMe. Eighteen-year-old Brice Johnson has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, causing serious bodily injury.

T B_johnsonhe attack is being investigated as a possible hate crime, KENS5 reports:

Keahey, 24, said his first contact with the 18-year-old suspect was on a phone app called MeetMe. Keahey said he went over to the teen's house about an hour later.

The Labor Day attack left Keahey with broken facial bones that required plastic surgery. He also suffered nerve damage and had some teeth knocked out.

Keahey is gay, and said he went to the teen's house in Springtown thinking he was either gay or bisexual. He said the ambush happened immediately.

"He started getting all frustrated and talking all angrily," Keahey said. "I don't remember anything after that."

Police said they received a 911 call from 18-year-old Brice Johnson, who told officers he found Keahey outside his house in the trunk of a car. Johnson said he drove Keahey to get medical help.

Neither Keahey and Johnson can recall much about the details of the attack, police say, though Keahey says it was a hate crime:

"Why would they have you under the belief that they're gay or bisexual or whatever they say you are, and have them show up and do what they did?"

  1. Typical Trolleroad bullcrap. When a white male is the perpetrator exhibits homophobic violent behavior everyone jumps to Meth/drugs, possible mental illness. He’s seen as an individual or special case, not representative of his race. But if the assailant had been of color there would be three pages of racist tripe. But it’s still good to see those not blaming the victim though I don’t know why I bother reading the comments section of any posts on this site.

  2. I see nothing in the report that this was a sex date nor has any evidence been presented as such. I see nothing in the report that this was a drug hook up and no evidence has been presented. Granted it wasn't the wisest of things to do - meet someone on the Net then go to their home to meet in person but the damage to the 24-year old is certainly intolerable. The 18YO should be charged with a hate crime and spend a good 30 years in jail.

  3. It's a horrible situation. But this "oh, well, you should know better than to meet guys of an APP" thing is NONSENSE>

Lacey Peterson was murdered by her husband, while we she was pregnant with his child.

So let's not turn this into "hookups mean you get killed!' - that's just intellectually dishonest.

meeting a dude online? create a papertrail of all the deets.

  4. @Rick aka Hagatha: There are no gay bars in Springtown, TX. In fact, there are no gay bars in any town in Texas with a population under 75,000. And in a humping big state that's a long-ass drive to the nearest gay bar.

If you want gay Texans to live your advice, how about you get those "fiscally responsible," racist, misogynist Tea-Bagger politicians whose balls you like to lick to do something about the absurd price of gas.

  5. Clearly anti-gay ‘Matthew Shepard Truthers’ are seizing upon this opportunity to spread their discord and ‘process loss’. It must be really upsetting for them that gays can speak for themselves, and to each other.
(Turn on sarcasm filter) Oh no, gay people are NEVER attacked brutally for being gay, it MUST have been methamphetamine related or due to unfortunate ‘mental illness’ on the part of the attacker. It’s not like any anti-gay person could do such terrible things WITHOUT being mentally ill or on drugs, right? I mean anti-gays are NEVER EVER violent towards gays EVER.

  6. In Texas pastors preach weekly that all gay people should die, no surprise at this at all as it is 12 miles from my home town. The "friendly" folks in the state will kill you if your gay.

  7. Never meet a stranger at their house- always meet them in a public place! In ancient times when there was not internet and we had to use newspaper personals to meet dudes- but hey you still have to sue common sense-I feel sorry for the victim but next time be more careful

  8. FFS - Arron lives 45 minutes from the nearest gay bar. I have driven 45 minutes to go to the Hippo in Baltimore many nights in my youth.

  9. Robert - Brice Johnson did not live at the house in question. It was some black guy's house.

  11. @Hags: Yeah, but back then a gallon of gas only cost . . . what? A dime? A nickel?

  12. Sad story. Sad comments.

I meet strangers in public places.

    It is not rocket science.

Also, mace is a handy thing; and so are self defense courses.

  13. 24 vs 18? First off that child was way too young - Secondly gays need to stop advertising themselves, you don't see straight people doing that. Now maybe, just maybe the 24 year old learned his lesson & besides how do know the elder wasn't the aggressor, remember zimmerman? Yes I'm rooting for the teen.
