Catholic Bishop to Hold 'Exorcism' as Illinois Governor Signs Gay Marriage Into Law

The Roman Catholic Bishop of Springfield, Illinois has big plans to counter the ceremony Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is planning to sing the marraige equality bill into law next week.

PaprockiWrites Bishop Thomas John Paprocki in a press release:

Scheduled for approximately the same time that Gov. Pat Quinn signs into Illinois law the redefinition of civil marriage, Bishop Thomas John Paprocki will offer “Prayers of Supplication and Exorcism in Reparation for the Sin of Same-Sex Marriage” at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sixth and Lawrence streets in Springfield, on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 5 p.m. Clergy, religious and laity are invited to attend.

“The context for this prayer service may be understood by recalling the words of Pope Francis when he faced a similar situation as Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 2010,” Bishop Paprocki said.

Regarding the proposed redefinition of civil marriage in Argentina, then-Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio wrote on June 22, 2010: “The Argentine people must face, in the next few weeks, a situation whose result may gravely harm the family. It is the bill on matrimony of persons of the same sex. The identity of the family, and its survival, are in jeopardy here: father, mother, and children. The life of so many children who will be discriminated beforehand due to the lack of human maturity that God willed them to have with a father and a mother is in jeopardy. At stake is the total rejection of God’s law engraved in our hearts. ... Let us not be naive: it is not a simple political struggle; it is an intention [which is] destructive of the plan of God. It is not a mere legislative project (this is a mere instrument), but rather a ‘move’ of the father of lies who wishes to confuse and deceive the children of God.”

Bishop Paprocki noted, “The pope’s reference to the ‘father of lies’ comes from the Gospel of John (8:44), where Jesus refers to the devil as ‘a liar and the father of lies.’ So Pope Francis is saying that same-sex ‘marriage’ comes from the devil and should be condemned as such.”

Illinois Speaker Mike Madigan and Governor Pat Quinn are both Catholics.

Adds Paprocki in his release:

“It is scandalous that so many Catholic politicians are responsible for enabling the passage of this legislation and even twisting the words of the pope to rationalize their actions despite the clear teaching of the church,” he said. “All politicians now have the moral obligation to work for the repeal of this sinful and objectionable legislation. We must pray for deliverance from this evil which has penetrated our state and our church.”

  2. Pope Francis probably doesn't care, because what has he done to stop this hatred? Nothing at all. He knows it's still occurring. It's all show.

Anyway, just more evil behavior from Catholic Bishops. I'd be surprised if Quinn and Madigan are welcome in their churches. We're getting to a point where there simply is no cordial relationship between anti-gay and pro-gay religious believers.

  3. Exorcism, sainthood, miracles. All these remind me of the Medieval Church. Except they can't burn heretics now because they have lost all power and relevance. The only thing they can do is to excommunicate these evil politicians who probably don't care.

  4. This is why it would have been better if Quinn had just signed the law right after it was passed like Abercrombie did in Hawai'i. The delay has allowed the wingnuts to organize these counter events.

  5. Broadcast it. Show this asshat in all his Medieval ignorance along with anyone else stupid enough to associate with it.

Invite Bachmann, Cruz, Rubio & the entire Fox network. Invite Cardinal George & Bill Donohue. Get all the hate group spokesnuts in one setting, Brown & Gallagher & Fischer & Perkins & Labarbra. Make them face the reality of their ignorance and discrimination and have it forever on film.

  6. Historically conflict between Church and state usually ended up with the Church losing. Pope Boniface was bietch slapped by a leader of an army sent by King Phillip of France. He was so shocked that he died a few days later. Too bad someone can't slap Paprocki his highness to wake him up.

  7. Bishop Paprocki clearly has way too much free time. He may need to get a job like farming so that his parishoners can eat healthy food instead of hearing his sad cries.

God loves everybody. Even this poor bishop.

  8. STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIVE IN BISHOP!! YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT YOU FEEL IN YOUR HEART IS RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT THESE M-I-S-G-U-I-D-E-D PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY! It's funny how in less than 10 yrs G.L.A.A.D. could "unravel" a MAN/WOMAN civil union that pre-dates Christ! How is that possible? & now, if ANYBODY DISAGREES WITH THEM they are "gay bashing"" homophobic" spewing haters when all we are doing is excercising our GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO EXPRESS "OUR BELIEFS". But Bishop just ONE ralley won't be enough. You will have to have a " focused" sustained consistency to spread your messege JUST LIKE G.L.A.A.D. DID! YOU WILL HAVE TO RAISE AN "ARMY" JUST LIKE G.L.A.A.D. DID. But it will be G.O.D.S ARMY. They laughed @ them (gays) & called them "CRAZY LUNATICS" too but now LOOK who's laughing. Let us not LOSE FOCUS & be distracted by all the other issues reguarding the CHURCH. Let us focus on ONE THING @ A TIME.

  9. (not the same person who commented above)

I really don't mind him performing an exorcism because fair is fair. Once, when a previous pope visited San Francisco, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence held a full-blown exorcism in Union Square. They claim it got them on some sort of official heretics list, but they could be making that up to be funny - I once searched for such a list and didn't find in using Google.

  10. How appropriate that he will use a 16th century (or maybe earlier) rite to show his disapproval of the modern world.
Exorcisms are great for movies. In real life they are pretty ridiculous.
