Shock PPP Poll: HS Students Should Get to Wear Confederate Flag to School But Not Gay Pride Flag

Ppp

In a recent PPP poll, a majority of those surveyed support allowing high school students to wear the confederate flag to school, while a larger majority oppose allowing students to wear gay pride flags to school.

Writes Jonathan Capehart: Confederate

Folks, the Confederate flag is no better than a Swastika. It is a symbol of white supremacy, hate and oppression that has no place in American political discourse. That Kanye West wants to co-opt the rebel banner is as noble as it is futile. Meanwhile, the rainbow that is the gay pride flag symbolizes inclusion and acceptance. Oftentimes, usually in other countries, the words “pace” or “peace” can be found emblazoned on it. The rainbow flag is the very antithesis of the Confederate flag. That the latter is deemed more acceptable than the former is deplorable.

PPP surveyed 649 American voters, including an oversample of 400 usual Democratic primary voters and 629 Republican primary voters, from October 29th to 31st, 2013. The margin of error for the overall survey is +/- 3.8%, +/-4.9% for the Democratic portion, and +/-3.9% for the GOP portion. PPP’s surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews.

  1. Remember when I was a kid there was a mean and religious old man that had a large decal of a confederate flag PROMINENTLY, if crookedly displayed on his front door. (Every Halloween he and his wife used to turn off ALL Their house lights and pretend that no one was home.) When he died years later his son showed up and quietly removed it. Was told that the son had been banished from the house when he married a black girl. The decal of the Confederate flag appeared just after that . . .

  2. Wow. The flag of traitors is preferred over the flag of people.

  3. Last time I looked, the United States of America was still a free country. If students want to wear a Gay Pride flag, let them! If students want to wear a Confederate flag, let them!

  4. @ TED :
"This is such BS. The only mean symbols have is the meaning YOU GIVE IT."

You are sounding like Alice in Wonderland.
-Words mean what I want them to mean.

And hast thou slain the Jabberwock ?

  5. You know, I'm something of a BOQ unfortunately -- but there is a ray of Pollyanna-ism still in me; so, if you added the "unsures" (those who could be swayed to the light) with the pro "gay t-shirts" in each of the questions above, they pretty much out-number (or come very close to out-numbering) the absolutist, definitive "bigots/violence" crowd. That looks like a win for our side.

  6. Regardless of how representative this poll actually is of public opinion, I'll never understand how anyone can do this kind of absurd mental gymnastics to justify their hypocritical bigotry.

    sentiments.

  9. "HeresYourChange" is obviously a Troll, I take it, the name is a play on Obama's "Hope and Change".

I see others responded to this persons comments, so I know I am not the only one who can smell pond scum via the www.

Also, I'll give Troll/PondScum some pointers:

Never use the word "glitter" if you are doing so to paint a negative picture of one type of gay. That is a red flag for homophobia

Second, you show your lack if authenticity by bringing in T-Bag talking points, and not the good ones might I add, when talking about the "Founding" of the country. That is a sure sign of T-Baggery mixed with FOX

If you want to insult, just do so, chances are u wont have your comment deleted like on most "right- wing" sites and you probably won't be banned like most pro-Confederate Flag groups on FB if you disagree with others.

One last point, well a question actually; do you even know how and why the 13 colonies came to be?

I doubt it, but just a thought that you may look up history and educate yourself.

  10. The Confederate flag is not a white supremacist flag whites, blacks, Hispanics, Jews, American Indians all served together defending the Confederacy. Do some research and you will learn the truth.
