What Should be Done About Alec Baldwin's Ongoing Homophobic Outbursts?

Baldwin

GLAAD condemned Alec Baldwin yesterday after the actor was caught calling a photographer a "c**ksucking fag" on camera.

"Mr. Baldwin can’t lend his support for equality on paper, while degrading gay people in practice. It's clearly time Mr. Baldwin listens to the calls from so many LGBT people and allies to end this pattern of anti-gay slurs."

What follow-up the organization will take remains to be seen....

Baldwin tweeted again last night:

"Anti-gay slurs are wrong. They not only offend, but threaten hard fought tolerance of LGBT rights...I'm grateful to all of the ppl I meet + hear from who recognize that I would never say something to offend my friends in the gay community...1-Rich Ferraro from @glaad informs me that c'sucker is an anti-gay epithet. In which case I apologize and will retire it from my vocabulary."

How do you feel Alec Baldwin should be punished for his latest outburst? Do his continued slurs involving gay people reveal that although he's a liberal, he's deep down also a homophobe?

Feel free to make your thoughts known in the comments.

  2. I think we have more pressing issues than worrying about Alec Baldwin's mouth. When he says these types of things, it just makes him look ridiculous and hypocritical.

  3. I like Alex as an entertainer. He disgusts me as a human being. It's an odd paradox that I've come to accept.

I think he has a grammar school bully mentality. Not so much rooted in deep thinking or keen sense of another's breaking point, but rather a quick and violent retort that is meant to demonstrate his anger. He's not as smart as most give him credit for. He's an actor with little personal self-control. End of story.

  4. He's done it too many times to be sorry. He's just as big a homophobe as his brother Stephen.

  5. It's his problem. Forget it.

  6. I for one have had enough. It's been documented since 1992 that he's been pulling this crap. As we in this country try to curtail bullying, the language has got to go. If it's in the media, it's perceived to be given societal approval.

  7. He should be forced to date Andrew Sullivan

  8. Enough is enough. Baldwin has been given a pass before as he pretends to be part of the Liberal ProGay environment.
His remarks show how insensitive he really is to the Gay crowd.

  9. Too much finally. I will never watch him again. He really does not give a damn!

  10. If my family was being harassed and I perceived a possible threat to their safety, similar to worse language would be coming out of my mouth. Yes, I'd prefer he not use anti-gay rhetoric but in the heat of the moment he adequately expressed his anger. Did he perceive the paparazzi as homosexuals and lash out at their orientation? I doubt it. He's old and was raised in an environment where that was once acceptable. He's not likely to change. Worry about the young who can still learn from the errors of their ways.

  11. Nothing, because there's a thing called context. Really, folks, with Russia trying to create a Gay Holocaust and real bigots like Scott Lively out there, this is what we worry about?

I don't find this the slightest homophobic and I'm gay since the day I learned the words for "Thank You For Being a Friend".

  13. I like Alec. When he tells off a bitchy queen; he's usually right. Some people don't like him because of his "tell it like it is" style--I find it refreshing.

  14. @JOEY best idea yet.

  15. If he was an athlete, he might have been fined a significant amount of money.

He should be "required" (by us) to give $100,000 to GLAAD, and make a speech on YouTube about why he's doing it (his own behavior.)

  16. He doesn't need to be punished. He needs to be educated. I do not believe that saying something in anger means that you really think that way. I suspect the brain files words in terms of their offensiveness without regard to whom they offend. Most of us have found ways to remove certain words from our repertoire. Baldwin can do the same.

  17. He is an ally and a vocal one at that. I don't think he should be given a free pass, but I don't think he should be shunned, either. While his anger issues are well known, gay slurs are not the first or only words he uses. They are just the ones that get the most press on this and other websites we visit. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, as they say. He is clearly negating the good things he does for the community with this type of behavior, but it's not worth losing such a vocal ally. Plus, it's not like he is suddenly going to stop believing in gay marriage or anti-discrimination measures just because we are mad at him. At the end of the day someone needs to take him to anger management classes.

  18. Please note that he only uses the obsolete epithets he grew up with when he's really, really angry and not thinking.

When he's not angry, he has been actively supportive of LGBT people both personally and publicly. For many, many years. He has never been required to do this, he's done it because he's a decent man.

And c@cks%ck#ing, which I have to spell that way to get around the autocensor, is NOT a specifically gay activity - many women are proud of their c@cks%ck#ng skills, too, you know. Mr Baldwin has probably benefited from more heterosexual c@cks%ck#ng than homosexual c@cks%ck#ng, and in normal life would only criticize poorly done c@cks%ck#ng.

  19. Also, please note that "lousy c@cks%ck#r" or "incompetent c@cks%ck#r" are completely valid epithets, since we all dislike poorly done blowjobs.

  20. People in show business rely heavily on gay artists and craftsmen -- and the straight progressives who support them -- on every film or TV set and in every production office. Many of his colleagues will shame or shun him. He has disgraced himself within his personal and professional world -- and created his own punishment.

  21. Wouldn't it be helpful if Andy Towle gave us his opinion rather than this bizarre fence-sitting schtick that he often performs in relation to liberal entertainers?

Don't be afraid to give us your opinion, Andy.

    piece of "crapola"
But his ALWAYS have to do with gays
    And C***ksucker and

If he sweared and said the N word
(Oh, I think he did that too recently)
    Is that acceptable

  23. You can chose to boycott his movies, shows, etc, but that's pretty much anyone can do. What hebsaid was definitely ugly, but last I checked we still had freedom of speech in this country, and sometimes assholes say things you don't like. Tough. No one ever said you had the right not to be offended.
