Morrissey is Writing a Novel

MorrisseyIn a lengthy Q&A on his website, Morrissey says he's writing a novel:

"In 2013 I published my Autobiography and it has been more successful than any record I have ever released, so, yes, I am mid-way through my novel. I have my hopes. The actuality is that radio stations will not play my music, and the majority of people have lost faith in the music industry, and it's generally assumed - quite rightly - that the number one chart positions are "bought" by the major labels, so there really is no passion left in pop or rock music, and I don't think people believe for an instant that the faces we constantly see on television and in magazines are remotely popular. It's all, now, solely a question of marketing. All success stories are safe and dreary, and you will never be taken by surprise by a hit song that sounds out of place. This is not just my view but the view of everyone I know."

  1. Why does this site report on everything that he does? Seriously. Why?

  2. Why does he think publishing is going to be different? Publishers buy the premium positions in bookstores. Publishers buy visibility at Amazon. If he wasn't part of the marketing machine he condemns his book would never have sold.

  3. Good thing he has his thinking cat on.

  4. To Joey, I'm glad that this site reports on everything Morrissey says and does as I am interested in everything Morrissey says and does. I'm sure I am not the only one.

  5. @Bicurious, wouldn't it make more sense to follow a Morrissey site then? He doesn't seem to really do anything with regards to activism (for humans, at least) and he's not the only guy who does the vaguely bi thing, so I just don't get the fixation.

  6. Joey T -- see out William E. Jones' superb documentary "Is it Really So Strange?" which deals with the Latino Moz cult in Southern California. believe it should answer all your questions.

As regards "Bisexuality," Moz is a leather bottom.

  7. This site reports on Morrissey news because he's an important out gay man of significant historical import.

If you have a problem with that, go somewhere else !

And *everything* he's quoted as saying in this article rings true to me and my friends.

It's true, it's ALL true, pull your head out !

  8. David - whether he's a "leather bottom" is independent of whether he's bisexual.

  9. "Why does this site report on everything that he does? Seriously. Why?"

Why does this and many other gay sites hang on every scrap of "news" that females like Madonna, Cher, Gaga and so on generate?

    See how easy that is?

  10. Guys, Joey is the new troll.

Morrissey is (gay), therefore relevant, culturally, in any context. Therefore, he belongs on this blog. But anything of true interest belongs on this blog. Which would probably eliminate about 25% of what's on this blog. Who cares, it's the only blog I read, I'll take what I can get.

Love the comment about the having the thinking cat on. Brilliant.

  11. Wow, the comments on here sure have turned vile and rude. Name calling? Inflating the "relevance" of someone on a site that is supposed to be about things that reflect things like marriage equality and gay issues simply because someone is gay but doesn't do anything seriously proactive to help the LGBT community? The vile tone really is disappointing on a blog that I thought was a little more adult, and it's getting to be an everyday thing.

Since you feel the need to attack someone for asking a basic question (and respectfully asked, by the way) perhaps lending my support to this blog and the readers isn't really the right thing for me anymore. I've grown rather tired of supporting people who lash out when someone doesn't agree with them about a minor thing, and I certainly don't appreciate being attacked. Frankly, you guys don't deserve my support or efforts. Good luck with your hateful selves, and consider Towleroad deleted from my bookmarks.

  15. The world was never good enough for Morrissey. Surely he can be happy that his pithy observations keep him well dressed.

  16. This is the first thing I've read of him that wasn't vacuuous twaddle.

(But I bet his novel rams vegetarianism down the reader's throat.)

  17. Nope. Still not convinced that I should give two deuces about Morrissey.

  18. Really:: I decided this year that it's time for me to start writing a book about my memories of childhood.. And maybe into a children's book so TR doesn't comment:-). But will start on it and write by hand ala’ JK Howl.. Let you know if I get a publisher
