TV's Bachelor Continues Damage Control Over Anti-Gay Remarks, Will Meet with GLAAD, Gay Families

TV's Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis spoke with GLAAD yesterday and is planning a standard dog and pony show to make amends for his anti-gay remarks.

2jp_galavisSaid Galavis to GLAAD:

"I have heard from many gay Latinos today who are hurt because of what I said and I apologize. I know gay parents and I support them and their families. They are good parents and loving families. I am a father and I know the feel of being a father, why wouldn't I want my gay friends to also be happy parents? I also want gay and lesbian youth to know that it is fine to be who you are. Gay or straight, Black or White, Latin or American, what matters here is to respect who we are. I look forward to meeting with gay and lesbian families as well as Monica [Trasandes, GLAAD's Director of Spanish-Language and Latino Media] and Wilson [Cruz] from GLAAD. Gay and lesbian people, and the children they are raising, wrongfully face discrimination and I want them to know that I'm on their side."

Galavis said in an interview that gays are "perverted" and therefore a gay-themed version of The Bachelor would not set a "good example" for children.

ABC has tried to distance itself from the remarks and released a statement: "Juan Pablo’s comments were careless, thoughtless and insensitive, and in no way reflect the views of the network, the show’s producers or studio."

  1. Who appointed GLAAD as the place to go to seek forgiveness? Enough. Same old story every time. Celebrity makes stupid gay comments. GLAAD makes you "have a meeting" with them. Kiss the pope's rings, get their punishment and a flowery little press release is put out. It is getting old. GLAAD is not the judge, jury and executioner for the gay community and quite frankly, don't know why they think they were elected to the position.

Yes, Juan is an idiot and this show is a prime example of what is wrong with the state of marriage in America, not gay people getting married.

  2. Getting tired of newbie celebs stepping into it. Really, is it soooooooo hard to realize that when you are in the public eye you just say nice things about everyone? Is it really so hard in this day and age to just at least be neutral about gays?

You would think that the agent or PR person would have briefed them onthis!

  3. OK so this guy already has at least one child. So did he have sex outside of marriage which many people find "perverse" or disgusting or has he been married ? If he has been married then we need to sue ABC because the guy is not a "Bachelor". If he hasn't been married then he should not be on TV because having sex & children outside of marriage is something we should not be parading on TV as it is a bad influence for our children.

  4. Oh, he is just a jerk who, fumbling with English, said a stupid thing.

Meanwhile BOYCOTT OVERSTOCK.COM, until their Executive VP stops backing a phony movement that insists that the Gays are going to force churches in Utah to marry them.

  5. GLAAD is a truly useless group.

Its sole function seems to be to allow extremists spout the most venomous hate speech and get away with it.

  6. Richard: His comments were actually worse than Phil Robertson's.

Absolutely not, the duck guy was a thousand times worse. I take this guy kinda/sorta at his word, that his English came out wrong, maybe he didn't exactly mean perverted. Probably meant something bad, but not as bad.

  7. Wow. A backpeddler. And so eloquently done. First, he claims we are perverts, but then steps back, feels the direction of the wind, and then claims he knows gay parents and wants them to be happy.

So let me see if I understand this clearly. A Gay Bachelor show would not set a good example for children, assumedly because we are perverts, but the pervert gay parents that he claims to know are his good friends who he feels are good examples for children. What a crock of malarkey.

How far into the throat does the foot go? Would you care to try for the entire ankle?

  9. He claims that he was misunderstood since English is not his first language. Apparently the words "pervertido" and "perverted" are verrrryyyy different.

  10. Said this elsewhere: Yes, because the Bachelor is THE gold standard of what children should watch! Why aren't religious conservatives protesting this show? The Bachelor and Bachelorette have made a complete mockery of marriage. Conservatives need to stop blaming "the gays" for the destruction of straight marriage. They are doing such a great job of it on their own.
