'Dumb Starbucks' Creator Reveals Himself: VIDEO

Over the weekend, parody coffee shop 'Dumb Starbucks' took L.A. and social media by storm, and its creator has now revealed himself as comedian Nathan Fielder of Comedy Central's 'Nathan for You'.

Fielder showed his face yesterday at a press conference and in a video on YouTube, though he's not breaking character.

In related news, Fielder made NOM feel like they had won something for a moment (which just doesn't happen these days). The National Organization for Marriage published a dumb post about how thrilled they were that an equality-minded organization was being labeled 'dumb' suggesting that it was similar to their failed 'Dump Starbucks' campaign.

  5. I hope this gets shut down. I'm not a fan of huge corporations but in this case I hope Starbucks sues this idiot. This idea is so sleazy and cheap and seems illegal to me.

  9. @reality:

You've lost touch. Of course, the whole thing is a joke.

  10. Except it isn't art. His own direct statement indicates that his use of the Starbuck's name and logo is specifically to sell coffee.

That's trademark infringement, prima facia. The addition of "Dumb" in front of it doesn't change the fact. Using another company's trademark to sell your own product is infringement.

Fair Use requires commentary and transformation, using only as much of the copied material as is necessary. This clearly violates that legal standard.

    It won't last.

  11. I thought I read he GAVE the coffee away? Can they stop him if he's just giving it away?
