  1. RE: Michael Sam's Father. Such interviews are typically recorded so the likelihood that he was misquoted is small. The NYT is particularly careful about this -- thought it could happen. The recording will tell. More likely, he decided that he said too much and now regrets his words. Blaming the reporter is a common -- but transparent -- tactic. I hope he gets things settled with his son and just learns to keep his mouth shut if he hasn't sufficiently thought about his words.

  2. "Lupita stuns" anyone can "stun" with some money.

  3. I know it's hateful, but I just have to laugh at that preacher getting bit by the snake. Darwinism at its best. Unfortunately, his followers will rationalize it using made up Biblical theory and pick those snakes right back up. When you're that dumb, you're just begging for it.

  7. My guess is that Michael Sam's father was quoted accurately, but the quotes were used without proper context.

  8. One is glad that Ellen and Portia have found each other and, apparently, unparalleled bliss, but has anyone ever seen a photo of them where they aren't either draped all over themselves or, at minimum, clutching each others hands? I can't believe I'm the only one who finds all of this conspicuous public display of affection just a wee bit forced. (Now let the avalanche of comments from all those who believe Ms. DeGeneres is the gay reincarnation of Mother Teresa in slacks commence, calling me a hater. In fact, I'm only making an observation.)

  9. My guess is that Michael Sam's father was quoted accurately, but he didn't realize how stupid and bigoted he actually sounded till someone read it back to him.

I think you need to control for the fact that they appear to be very private and at the same time, very capable of controlling their own publicity and access to photographers - meaning that they're generally aware they are bing photographed, and may be consciously or unconsciously posing.

If you judged by photographs, you'd think my family was incapable of having a facial expression that wasn't mugging and stupid. But if there's no camera present, they look normal.

  14. Michael's father seems very naive and close minded, very much unlike his son. The NYT should send the father a tape recording of the interview, let him eat his own words.

  15. On the night of Michele's death authorities came to discover that he spent a whopping $600 on booze at club Marquee before dizzily proceeding to walk down the 'middle of the street' for ten blocks back to his boat house.

Which raises the awkward question, was the downtown darling simply living life on the edge as we are all led to believe or was he a seasoned drunk and who knows what else who was nursing demons…..????
