Queen Elizabeth II Congratulates GLBT Charity Organization On 40th Anniversary

Queen Elizabeth II has gone the entirety of her reign without any involvement in LGBT charities nor voiced support of equal rights. All of that has now changed as she surprised London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard on their 40th anniversary with a message of congratulations, saying, “Best wishes and congratulations to all concerned on this most special anniversary.”

Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, London Mayor Johnson, and Labour leader Ed Miliband all added their voices of support as well to the organization, Cameron saying,

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard on reaching its 40th anniversary.

Since 1974 there has been real progress towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. Voluntary organisations, such as the Switchboard, have made a vital contribution to that progress. The government continues to work to create a fairer and more equal society by removing the barriers to equality that LGBT people face.

  2. If Her Majesty had any negative aspect, it's that she didn't actively support LGBTs, like her Mother. I'm glad she did this - another reason to love the one and only Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of Australia and Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth.

  3. Great photo! But the rainbow has 7 colors (ROY-G-BIV), so one is missing: it ends with Blue, Indigo and Violet. Surely you can find the Queen wearing an Indigo colored coat or dress?

  4. Does she only own those two pair of shoes?

  6. Another in a continuous stream of articles that appeared elsewhere some time ago. If this is your only gay blog, you're not keeping current.

    Long live the Queen!

  7. The British royal family are some of the most evil people ever to walk the face of the earth yet you stupid silly queens are obsessed with them.

The queen is a self serving snob who does not give a fck about anyone but herself. She has never once publicy even acknowledged gay people exist because SHE DOES NOT CARE !

WAKE UP you idiot gays. The royal family does NOT support gay people and never has. The royal family are RIGHT WING - VERY VERY RIGHT WING. They HATE gay people and poor people and anyone who is not white.

  9. OK. Now explain why your Commonwealth includes Nigeria and Uganda (to name but two repugnant members) Elizabeth.

  10. I'd like to hear more about how the queen-mother was more LGBT friendly.

  11. The Queen Mother had some gay friends like Cecil Beaton, but she was NEVER openly supportive of gays.

  12. Well she has her own clever way to show what she thinks. I am glad she did this.

  13. I've seen not a shred of evidence of her being homophobic - ad hominem attacks are best suited for confirmed bigots or actual politicians.

  14. I've never seen her express a shred of an opinion on much of anything. Her position seems stultifying.

  16. She's been handing over day-to-day affairs to Charles now for some time, and he now has a larger staff than she does. I suspect this was more or less prompted by his staff rather than hers.

  18. Was this done on the Queen's initiative, or was it on a list given to her by the government?

  19. Since no one has commented to Middle of the Roader: the gay 'flag' / 'symbol' is a 6 colored rainbow. Sometimes with at addition of pink but NEVER a 7 color with Indigo. Thus the photo montage of the queen is in keeping of this tradition.

  20. The Queen never makes any public statement unless it is written for her by the Government. That's the nature of the UK constitution. So her silence so far is down to the Government not her. We know this because she and her mother have always famous been fag hags. The Queen's uncle was Bi, many of her personal staff have been Gay and the Queen Mother was best buds with Noel Coward.
