David Geffen Interested in Buying the L.A. Clippers

GeffenThe L.A. Clippers could have a gay owner if NBA Commissioner Adam Silver forces a sale of the team, the L.A. Times reports:

"If the Clippers become available he would be interested in buying the franchise," his office said via email, adding that Geffen was not available to elaborate.

Geffen, with a net worth that Forbes estimates at $6.2 billion, reportedly tried to buy at least a controlling stake in the Clippers in 2010 but was rebuffed by owner Donald Sterling.

Silver fined owner Donald Sterling $2.5 million today and banned him from the NBA for life over racist remarks that surfaced over the weekend.

  6. This whole situation with the basketball teams makes me wonder where's the outrage at the way the bigot owner was treated? Where's Andrew Sullivan and his eighty signers of petitions protesting that the punishment was too severe? That the "black mafia" has too much power? That bigots who speak privately should be allowed to hold their private ideas?

(BTW, that owner's girl friend screwed him way more than he screwed her.)

  7. I should of have been a professional gold digger as my career path. Be lavished with expensive gifts and cars and a paid-for home and hobnob with celebs. Then again that would be like sacrificing my soul.

The irony is that though the mistress has screwed over the team owner reputation/legacy-wise, he's only going to end up much richer once he sells the team. Must be nice to call a $2.5 million fine a drop in the bucket.

  8. So, the NBA forces a sale at a discount to another billionaire? Are they run like the mob or something?
