'Big Brother 16' Hasn't Even Started and There is Already a Racist Homophobe Controversy

A few days ago we reported that Ariana Grande's gay half-brother would be appearing on Season 16 of CBS' Big Brother which premieres on Wednesday, and now it has been revealed that one of Grande's housemates is an alleged homophobe and racist.

CalebReynoldsCaleb Reynolds, a former prison guard in Iraq and professional hunter posted several unfortunate comments on his Instagram account, "insain_physique." He seems mostly to harbor very ill feelings toward President Obama.

Online Big Brother reports:

On Caleb’s Instagram account “insain_physique” about 20 months ago he made some extremely disturbing comments. When these comments surfaced whoever is managing his account deleted his account in an attempt to destroy the evidence. His Instagram profile read “Caleb Reynolds 100% natural, Personal Trainer, fitness is my passion, GOD is my strength, heaven is my goal.”

One of Reynolds' comments read:

“You believe in murder? You agree with fags? I guess so but I don’t agree with murdering A innocent baby which he clearly doesn’t mind. Nothin has changed in these last four years. You know it. Your just a democrat that wants that Muslim monkey in office. I’m done with you, your dismissed…

Also if you could see straight and wasn’t color blind the map if the US is completely red, thank god he only gets 4 more years. You and the other democrats will wish you never voted for him soon. Good job.”

Will his bigoted remarks receive some airtime, or will he keep them to himself (unlike last season's contestants)? Time will tell.

  1. Yet another character for right-wingers to latch onto while whining about how their free speech is being oppressed by the decent and respectful people.

  2. Reality shows thrive on controversy. Jeff Probst, host of Survivor, once said these kind of people were, "money". They increased viewership and thus created more revenue.

  3. CBS selects these types of people on purpose. Every contestant is personally vetted by network head, Les Moonves. His wife, Julie Chen, hosts Big Brother. You can bet that they do background checks.

They've decided that controversy over race-baiting and anti-gay bigotry attracts viewers. They may be right. It’s the only possible explanation for why the show does so well in the ratings.

  4. Don't write CBS. Write their advertisers. The only thing that works is when their advertisers start contacting them (CBS couldn't give less of a damn about its actual viewers).

This year, CBS doesn't have an excuse. After last year's racist fiasco, they've had a year to improve their screening process. But they couldn't even catch a contestant who Twitters the word "f*g" and calls the president a "monkey"? Yeah, sure thing.

Reports are that some of BB's key advertisers had already started to get seriously uncomfortable with last year's shenanigans (which is why CBS finally buckled and started airing a disclaimer before each episode). So start writing their advertisers now and ask them why BB hasn't even bothered to catch the above-mentioned blatant racism and homophobia in the screening process.

Start with KFC, Taco Bell, and Pepsi products. They were key advertisers on BB and presumably will be again. Ask them how they feel about BB once again forcing them to have to respond to associating their product with statements that sound like they come from a member of the Klan. This isn't after-the-fact-- it's when BB could have easily nipped this in the bud beforehand.

  5. Towleroad just provided some free advertising for the show by posting that story.

  6. Not surprised. Last year's Big Brother got big ratings thanks to the publicity surrounding the racist/homophobic comments by some of the house guests, and there was no doubt that the show's producers weren't going to dip back into the well for another drink. Anyone with an internet could have Googled this dude and found out about the nasty stuff he's said, so it's not like the producers were blind-sided by this.

From the moment Puck showed up on The Real World 20 years ago, reality TV producers have been seeking out some of the most repellant people on Earth and put them in front of a camera in pursuit of ratings.

  7. I mean isn't this exactly why people watch the show? It's Real World but with a cash prize at the end

  8. ^^ Not really. Last year was the first time they bothered to mention the racism on the broadcast version. And even then they misrepresented the amount of racism by pinning everything on one person and by ignoring everything else that was said.

The main draw of BB is to watch a bunch of shallow, famewhoring idiots make fools of themselves. Most viewers don't want racism and politics added to the mix because it sucks the fun out what supposed to be frivolous summer entertainment.

  9. Isn't this kind of buying into the manufactured outrage that is guaranteed to drive ratings for the show?

I thought reasonable gays like us were too smart to take the bait, but...

  10. I guess they did racism last season, need something new. I guess we'll see how this goes. If he's charming they'll cover it up like they did with Jeff's remarks. If he's unlikeable they'll make a storyline out of it. How it goes with this show.

  13. Why is it that it's always these God fearing Xtians who are supposed to be about loving their neighbor that end up being the biggest bigots? If that's the kind of people your religion attracts there might be something wrong with it.

  14. Little Kiwi's nemesis has truly arrived and boy does he have it coming. It's in his own name, it mocks him perfectly, it even responds as if it's the real him responding, and then it mocks him again. It's hilarious. He has been nullified so impeccably that it amounts to the shape of an exquisite film about an extremely clever real life ass who can only be nullified, and is, by a diabolical mimic.

  15. I have watched every episode of this show since it first aired in 2000. It has its ups and downs and terrible casting problems. But I love watching these people who are stuck together for a summer in a house with no distractions like TV or books or computers interact with each other and come apart at the seams. Usually the good guys triumph but occasionally a real villian wins. I admit I am addicted to this mess. If you don't like it then don't watch it. I have written my share of letters and made phone calls about the racism and homophobia on the show.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

  16. People who go on "reality" shows are by definition despicable human beings. Some are just a cut above the rest.

  17. Now that Big Brother knows that hatred = ratings, they will never stop. Never.
