News: Purple Squirrel, Brady Quinn, Panama, Ruben Diaz Sr., Kittens

road.jpg I didn't think it was possible for anti-gay New York state senator Ruben Diaz Sr. to get any more disgusting. The "gang of three" member praises Obama for choosing Rick Warren: "By rejecting the call to dis-invite Reverend Warren and by welcoming him to deliver the inauguration ceremony’s invocation in Washington, DC, Barack Obama has sent a message of inclusion...that we should be welcome all the time, not only to be used when they want our votes, support and participation in coalitions to benefit others. The time has come for a change. The Democratic Party should not be a party of only two issues: Abortion and homosexual marriage. Everybody should be accepted: Orthodox Jews, Evangelical Christians, Catholics, Muslims, and those with religious beliefs that oppose abortion and homosexual marriage. YES WE CAN!"

Images of two men who police want to speak to in connection with the attack in West Street have been issued by Sussex Police. The victim, aged 50, sustained extensive injuries during the assault, a police spokesman said. He said that the victim was distinctive as he was wearing smart clothing including a waistcoat and a hat."

I think that hopefully less than inspiring people I will have an opportunity to open people's eyes to different viewpoints and different possibilities in their life."

road.jpg Navy lieutenant who killed wife because she was going to reveal that he had an affair with another man is convicted with recommendation of 25-year prison sentence: "On Feb. 19, 2007, Everage struck his wife at their Norfolk home, Anderson said. He loaded her into an SUV and drove to Shore Drive near Atlantic Avenue, where he dragged her out of the vehicle and pulled her across brush nearly 30 feet into the woods. 'Can you imagine how scared she was?' Anderson asked. Robyn Everage's body was found two days later. A medical examiner testified she had been struck at least four times in the head. A side-view truck mirror with her blood on it was found nearby. Prosecutors told jurors that Everage killed his wife to prevent her from disclosing information - such as his sexual affair with another man - that could ruin his military career and his chances of having custody of his three children, including a 3-year-old daughter with Robyn."

For Those of You Who Had Any Lingering Lust for Brady Quinn

This may kill it.

"Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, rallied an overflow crowd Wednesday by urging Greater Clevelanders to support the underdog. And who better to help deliver that message than two members of Cleveland's favorite underdog -- make that underdawg -- team, the Browns. Quarterback Brady Quinn and left tackle Joe Thomas made a surprise appearance at the rally before roaring supporters at the Walter F. Ehrnfelt Recreation and Senior Center. Never mind that Quinn's popularity is all about image and hope, with little game experience to back it up -- the same qualities McCain accuses Democratic candidate Sen. Barack Obama of at each stop. In Strongsville, he and Palin sent the sharper attacks they have been leveling at Obama this week to the bench and pulled the backup Quinn off it to add a little more pep to an already boisterous rally."

Brady Quinn's Lawyers Finally Discover His M4M Facebook Ad

Quinn

Back in June I posted about an online hookup ad which was running on Facebook using Cleveland Browns Quarterback Brady Quinn.

Now, TMZ reports: "A rep for the Cleveland Browns tells us Brady had no knowledge of the ad saying, 'He was not involved in posting photos.' Brady's lawyer has already taken action and has sent a cease and desist letter to the website today, demanding all photos of him be removed ASAP."

Brady Quinn is not gay, although he does apparently hang out with homophobes and occasionally gives Hummers to fellow players.

Somehow I doubt the NFL licensed Quinn's image for this purpose, although he has been known to give a good hummer.

Quinn

No word on whether he's still hanging out with allegedly homophobic riff-raff, but Cleveland Browns QB Brady Quinn is now handing out, uh, hummers to the rookies, AFTER THE JUMP...

ESPN columnist Shoved, Taunted with Gay Slurs at NBA Weekend

LZ Granderson, a columnist for ESPN.com, says he was confronted by a group of men in New Orleans last week during NBA All-Star Weekend who taunted him with anti-gay slurs. Granderson says he fears that it would have escalated had a couple of policemen been nearby.

GrandersonWrites Granderson: "When the first one pushed me in the back, I remember thinking I was going to die. After a second shove, I had no thoughts at all -- only fear. This is how I spent a portion of my Saturday night during NBA All-Star Weekend -- being gay bashed because the size large T-shirt I was wearing wasn't large enough for someone else's comfort. As I walked by the group of men -- on my way to the Playboy party, no less -- one of them called me a faggot. Then another joined in. They followed me for a while, continuing to hurl names at me. I tried to ignore it but eventually the "Detroit" came out of me and I turned around and said some things I probably shouldn't have. Next thing I know I'm surrounded and wondering if I'm going to see the dawn and if not for a pair of New Orleans policemen who saw trouble brewing and yelled at the group to break it up, I might not have."

Granderson also discusses the Brady Quinn incident and urges professional sports to take more action toward homophobia among its players.
