At Hearing, Brandon White's Attacker Claims, 'I Barely Hit Him'

Moragne

Project Q Atlanta has a report on the hearings of three men facing up to 75 years in prison for the brutal February attack on Brandon White outside a grocery store.

GangattackDorian Moragne was the only attacker who testified:

“I didn’t want to plead guilty to the gang member because I am not a gang member. I plead guilty because I didn’t want to take it to trial. I am not in no gang. I am not a Blood or Crip. I am from Florida,” Moragne said Thursday.

“This ain’t what y’all portraying it to be. This ain’t California. We don’t have a history of beating up gay people. All of this stuff you are putting on the media to say we beat gay people so you can pass a law,” he added.

Moragne also suggested in an exchange with Banks that White said something to Cain and that prompted the attack. Cain was the first to hit White after his attackers waited for him outside the grocery store.

“Did Brandon say something to Cain,” Banks asked.

“From what everyone was saying, he did say something,” Moragne said. “I was being stupid, I was being a follower. I was wrong for what I did.”

Moragne continued by attempting to undercut the seriousness of the attack: “I barely hit him. I was wrong for hitting him but I didn’t hit him to the point of killing him. I was just being young and dumb.”

Banks retorted by asking Moragne if he threw a tire on White.

“Next question please,” Moragne retorted.

“Did you throw a tire on him?”

“Yes.”

Brandon White's Attackers Were on the DL and Worried He Was Going to Out Them, Says Rights Group: VIDEO

Some new developments in the case of Brandon White, the 20-year-old Atlanta man who was attacked by a gang earlier this month in a video that went viral. In the video, several men pummel White as he is leaving a grocery store, calling him "faggot" and taking his cell phone.

Now, LGBT rights advocates that stood by White after the attack say he needs to come clean because they believe his attackers were gay men on the down low who beat White over concern that a video White had on his cell phone would expose them.

White had previously claimed he did not know his attackers.

White's attorney Christine Koehler denies he knew them and is furious:

"The thought that we would watch a video that speaks for itself, and somehow flip it so that the men that beat my client are somehow victims of fraud is frustrating," she said. "Brandon stands by his assertion that he doesn’t know these gentlemen. It’s irrelevant because they won’t be prosecuted by a hate crime law that does not exist in Georgia."

Police Seek Third Suspect in Atlanta Anti-Gay Hate Crime, Believed to Be Hiding in Erie, Pennsylvania

Darael_williams

UPDATED: Williams has turned himself in.

Police are still searching for a third suspect in the vicious beating of 20-year-old Brandon White by a gang outside an Atlanta grocery store earlier this month. They have two suspects in custody but are seeking the public's help in finding a third

GangattackDareal Demare Williams is believed to be hiding in the Erie, Pennsylvania area, according to police, WXIA reports.

They said Williams is a known member of the Pittsburgh Jack City Gang, and thought to be staying with friends and relatives in Erie. The Pittsburgh Jack City Gang, which also goes by the name Jack City 1029, is a violent street gang based in Atlanta. Officials said a warrant for Williams' arrest has been issued in connection with the videotaped beating of White, which was posted on the Internet. Investigators said Williams is a minor, but has been charged as an adult for his role in the beating. They said a $25,000 reward has been offered by authorities for information to his arrest.

White came forward earlier this month after the beating, in which gang members punched and kicked him while laughing and calling him a "faggot", went viral.

Said White at the time: "By them going ahead and putting it on the internet, I feel that they wanted the attention...they wanted to make themselves look like they were brave or strong, but in my opinion, I'm the brave one."

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said her office is looking into potential civil rights violations based on sexual orientation. Georgia does not have a hate crimes statute.

Gay Man Beaten by Atlanta Gang Speaks Out: VIDEO

Brandon-white

At a press conference this afternoon, Brandon White, the Atlanta man beaten by a gang outside of a grocery store in a video posted online that went viral earlier this week, spoke out about the attack.

GangattackSaid White: "I feel that if a straight person can walk to the store and not have a problem, I should be able to do the same. I shouldn't have to worry about whether I should look over my shoulder, or is this person going to attack me, or is that person going to attack me for just being a gay male. I feel as though I should have justice, because those guys didnt feel my pain. They didn't care whether or not I was injured. I could have died that day. They don't know what they do to people. They're monsters."

White got a round of applause when he added: "By them going ahead and putting it on the internet, I feel that they wanted the attention...they wanted to make themselves look like they were brave or strong, but in my opinion, I'm the brave one."

White continued: “Who's to say they won't come after me again...Who's to say this time they won't try to kill me. All because I wanted to speak up about the situation."

The FBI is investigating the incident to determine if it meets the criteria for prosecution under the federal hate crimes law:

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said her office is looking into potential civil rights violations based on sexual orientation. Georgia does not have a state hate crimes statute. "The actions depicted in the video are appalling and unacceptable in our community, and we encourage anyone with information about this video to contact the FBI or Atlanta Police," Yates said.
