J.J. Abrams gave the world its first glimpse at a battle-worn X-Wing from Star Wars: Episode VII this morning in a video promoting the Star Wars: Force For Change campaign. Launched back in May of this year, Force For Change sought to raise funds for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund’s Innovation Labs, which aims to spur innovation in UNICEF’s means of reaching out.

By giving anywhere between $10-$50,000 through the campaign’s Omaze page in the next four days, fans will be entered into a raffle to shoot a scene and be in the next Star Wars film and tour the London set with Abrams. Supporters are also entered to win the chance to host an advanced screening of the film for themselves and 20 friends.

Star Wars Episode VII Begins Shooting: VIDEO

Disney Chairman Alan Horn delighted Star Wars fans everywhere when he told a crowd at the Loyola Marymount School of Film and Television in Los Angeles that Star Wars: Episode VII has begun shooting, Variety reports:

Chewbacca“We have a lot of them, it’s not completely done yet,” Horn responded when asked about casting, noting it as the most difficult part of putting the highly anticipated film together.

As J.J. Abrams prefers to keep details under wraps for most of his films, Horn declined to reveal any names. Variety, however, learned in February that “Girls” actor Adam Driver is in talks to play the villain. Actors being considered for the lead role include Ed Speleers, John Boyega, Jesse Plemons, Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.

“We’re actually shooting some of it now,” Horn said, despite previous comments that filming would start next month.

Today, a bit more news about the production crept out when The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca, would be returning to reprise his role.

Carrie Fisher has said she'll be returning and it has been rumored that Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford will be back as well.

J.J. Abrams's Bad Robot Drops Mysterious Teaser on YouTube: VIDEO

While writer-director-producer-showrunner J.J. Abrams is certainly one of Hollywood's most prolific hyphenates, he is also without a doubt the undisputed champion of 1) confusing the crap out of us and 2) teasing us all so that we beg for more.

Screen Shot 2013-08-21 at 11.51.36 AMWitness: "Stranger," the 67-second long confuse-a-palooza that Abrams's Bad Robot Productions dropped on its newly minted YouTube page on Monday.  The video, which has already garnered nearly 2 million views, is pretty inscrutable: a few indeterminate images, a soft piano score, some portent-y narration.  But of course, that was enough to set the interwebs ablaze with speculation about what project the enigmatic teaser could possibly be attached to.

As for clues?  Well, the clip opens with an impossible-to-miss Star Wars-esque field of stars.  But of course, those piano chords sound kind of like Michael Giacchino's score from Lost, which Abrams co-created.  And there's the black-and-white photography, which must mean...

Oh, whatever.  BuzzFeed has a couple of thories ('from most to least insane,' as they put it), the most likely being that the clip connects with a screenplay called The Stops Along The Way by Twilight Zone creator Rod Serling that Bad Robot bought back in June.  Reddit had a much more, um, unusual hypothesis.

Take a look at Bad Robot's mysterious teaser and see if you can solve the mystery, AFTER THE JUMP...

JJ Abrams Reveals Benedict Cumberbatch Shower Scene Cut from 'Star Trek: Into Darkness': VIDEO

Facing charges of sexism over his objectification of women in the new Star Trek film Into Darkness, JJ Abrams appeared on Conan last night and argued that Chris Pine's shirtless body is shown off in the film. He also revealed a very wet, very nipply scene — that was cut — from the film, featuring its villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
