An MFA art exhibition by Brooklyn College students was shut in early May after Parks Commissioner Julius Spiegel deemed it inappropriate for families. Students are now planning to file a federal lawsuit against the Parks department and the college, saying the action was a violation of free speech.
While a hand and penis sculpture or a video of nuns talking about sex may have been the offending art pieces, some are surmising that it was the piece above, by Carl Ferrero, a male torso and ass (not pictured, see link) accompanied by text describing an anonymous sexual gay sexual encounter between two men, one going by the screen name Dick Cheney, that set Spiegel's censorship meter all aflutter.
