The Advocate reports that 14 men who work with SEROvie, Haiti's largest organization serving gay and transgender people with HIV, were among those killled in the earthquake.
Said SEROvie's leader Steve La Guerre: "We were having our usual support group meeting on a quiet Tuesdayafternoon when the worst happened. The sound isunforgettable. I can't even describe the horror as the ceiling and thewall of the conference room started to fall and the chaos started. Itis now more than ever that SEROvie and ACCV (Civic Action Against HIV)are needed to provide the quality services we provide to ourbeneficiaries: food, clothes, and any type of help,” La Guerrecontinued. “Light a candle for these souls and for Haiti. Lord help us."
The French Minister for humanitarian relief has idiotically accused the U.S. of "occupying" Haiti.
And homeless Haitians are being instructed not to try and flee to the U.S. as the State Dept. tries to prevent a refugee crisis: "Every day, a United States Air Forcecargo plane specially equipped with radio transmitters flies for fivehours over the devastated country, broadcasting news and a recordedmessage from Raymond Joseph, Haiti's ambassador in Washington. 'Listen, don't rush on boats to leave the country,' Mr. Joseph says in Creole, according to a transcript released by the Pentagon. 'If you do that,we'll all have even worse problems. Because, I'll be honest with you:If you think you will reach the U.S. and all the doors will be wideopen to you, that's not at all the case. And they will intercept youright on the water and send you back home where you came from.'"
