Oh, just a little bit happening here.
Yesterday I reported about Jill Kelley, the social liaison to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, a friend of David and Holly Petraeus, to whom biographer Paula Broadwell, Petraeus' mistress, sent anonymous harassing emails.
Kelley was flipped out by the emails and called the FBI, triggering the investigation.
An FBI Agent was barred from the case after becoming personally involved with Kelley and sending her shirtless photos of himself:
"New details about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation handled the
case suggest that even as the bureau delved into Mr. Petraeus's personal
life, the agency had to address conduct by its own agent—who allegedly
sent shirtless photos of himself to a woman involved in the case prior
to the investigation."
Another top Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, is apparently obsessed with Kelley too: "According to a senior U.S. defense official, the FBI has uncovered between 20,000 and 30,000 documents — most of them e-mails — of “potentially inappropriate” communications between Allen and Jill Kelley, a 37-year-old Tampa woman, whose close relationship with Petraeus ultimately led to his downfall. Allen, a Marine, succeeded Petraeus as the top allied commander in Afghanistan in July 2011. He also served as Petraeus's deputy when both generals led the military's Tampa-based Central Command from 2008 until 2010."
Kelley and her husband hosted General Petraeus at a party at their home: "She and her husband hosted Mr Petraeus at a party on their lawn for Tampa's annual Gasparilla parade in 2010. He arrived with a 28-car motorcade. Other guests included Pam Bondi, Florida's Attorney General and a close ally of Mitt Romney, the former presidential candidate."
Kelley has "lawyered up" and hired DC superlawyer Abbe Lowell and crisis PR person Judy Smith. Smith has repped Monica Lewinsky, Larry Craig, Michael Vick and Kobe Bryant. She issued this statement for the Kelleys: "We and our family have been friends with General Petraeus and his family for over 5 years. We respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children."
Kelley says: 'I've done nothing wrong. I am the victim here. But it still feels awful.'
Eric Cantor was notified of the investigation, and at least one outlet says it was by the agent who was sending the shirtless photos: "On Saturday, Oct. 27, Cantor spoke by phone to an FBI employee who told him about an investigation, including the details about Petraeus' affair, and said he was concerned that classified information had been compromised.
Paula Broadwell has classified documents on her computer. Her house is being investigated.
And then there's this from Broadwell's father:
But Broadwell's father said Sunday his daughter is the victim of
character assassination and implied the bombshell story is just a smoke
screen for something bigger.
“This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out,”
Broadwell's dad, Paul Krantz, told the Daily News outside his home in
Bismarck, N.D.
“There is a lot more that is going to come out,” said Krantz, claiming
he was not allowed to elaborate. “You wait and see. There's a lot more
here than meets the eye.”
He said he supports his daughter “100%.”
