If you're unfamiliar with One Million Moms, it's a conservative watchdog group ostensibly formed for the purpose of protecting impressionable children from inappropriate themes, messages, and imagery in mass media. In practice, it's a collection of wingnut anti-gay scolds who make Helen Lovejoy look positively bacchanalian by comparison, which is not so surprising given that they're a project of the increasingly-misnamed American Family Association. We cover them from time to time on Towleroad, but Joe Jervis at Joe.My.God. practically has binders full of these women's antics.
It's no surprise, then, that Joe discovered that the AFA is filling out their pearl-clutching family with the foundation of One Million Dads. It seems like OMD would be a companion organization for OMM, but the mission page suggests a more…"patriarchal" intent:
The mission of One Million Dads, is the mission of Ezekiel 37. The men of the church have long been asleep. We have relinquished our God given position of leadership. Not to subjugate our families, but to lead them with the loving hand of Christ. Our hope is to wake up the fearsome wonder that is the mighty man of God and restore him to his role as leader, teacher, counselor, and then thereby change the world we live in for the better.
That reads an awful lot like, "We've been letting the womenfolk run things long enough; it's time for the men to step up and take charge." For the moment the site seems to contain mostly personal accounts of introspection and how to live a conservative Christian life, but we can be sure that we'll be hearing more from them as time goes on. For now, enjoy their post that compares legal elective abortions to the Holocaust.
As it currently stands, One Million Moms has a little over 70,000 likes on Facebook. One Million Dads has less than 500.
