Lady Gaga’s performance of “Til It Happens to You”, in which survivors of sexual assault took the stage, was the emotional centerpiece of the Oscars last night. The performance, introduced by Vice President Joe Biden, brought people to tears, and to their feet.

In a powerful gesture seen by those in the theatre balcony, Best Actress winner Brie Larson, whose character in Room was held captive by a sexual predator, got up out of her seat and hugged each and every survivor as they came down off the stage after the performance.
