Ted Cruz voiced support on Thursday for a spate of anti-LGBT ‘bathroom bills' that have been taken up by state legislatures across the country.
Speaking at an MSNBC Town Hall, Cruz regurgitated the dangerous myth that allowing transgender persons to use restrooms in accordance with their gender identity is tantamount to exposing children to sexual predators.
Cruz said Thursday during taping of a MSNBC town hall in Buffalo, New York, that states can pass such laws because “men should not be going to the bathroom with little girls.” Cruz says, “That is a perfectly reasonable determination for the people to make.”
But Cruz would not comment on an executive order signed by North Carolina's governor “to protect privacy and equality” for many state workers “to cover sexual orientation and gender identity.” Cruz says he isn't familiar with the details of what was signed.
WFBO reports that Cruz went even further in his anti-trans rhetoric:
Cruz also expressed support of a pending bill that requires transgender individuals to use bathrooms based upon a person's gender at birth. In his words, allowing ten boys to shower in the same space as teen girls is “nuts.”
