NYT profiles Pierre Hache, the gay black DJ who recently performed at the presidential palace in France: ‘On the day of the Elysée appearance, Mr. Hache wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the words, “Son of immigrants, black and gay.” He also brought along a troupe of ball dancers who posed for photographs with Mr. Macron on the palace steps. The pictures, which were widely shared on social media, caused a stir. Marine Le Pen, the leader of the far-right National Rally party, shared a video of the performance on Twitter, adding “Help!” and the scream emoji. Politicians from the center-right party the Republicans mocked the display as unstatesmanlike.

Gay bar Jetset shuts down. ‘According to a January Development Tracker story from the Journal, KMP Investments has proposed converting Jetset’s building into a mixed-use property, with first-floor commercial space and housing on the second and third floors. “A spokesman said the project would not affect Jetset,” the Journal reported then. But from the looks of this June Facebook post from Jetset, it’s the property owner who didn’t want to renew the lease.
